newbie to "real" mushrooms

I am a newbie to edibles. Can i use the same methods i may or may not have used to grow "poisonous" mushrooms?

if you check the <does any one know how to grow portabello mushies?> thread below, Mikologist says you can "grow em exactly like P. cubensis"

If you're going to get serious about cultivating, I'd suggest getting The Mushroom Cultivator by Stamets/Chilton. Also recommend (as a companion to TMC) is Growing Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms. I think you'll find that most of the cultivation advice on the shroomery can be found in one of those two books.
