Isn't it strange that we're all "us?"
    #3106921 - 09/08/04 03:52 AM (13 years, 3 months ago)

I was looking into my husbands eyes today and marveling how amazing and utterly crazy it is that he is him...that is, that he has a brain and thoughts and a reality all his own.  It really blows my mind to think of that.  I always wonder what it would be like to place myself in another persons perspective.  He is a person.  He has a brain.  It's so wild.

It really is like we're a world unto ourselves.  It's so weird.  I think for the first 18+ years of my life, I knew that there were other people in the world, but I never "knew" that they were people just like me, with their own minds.  I used to be pretty self-centered.  Nowadays, it's like just staring at a person and thinking about what it must be like to "be them" blows my mind completely.

I just wanted to share!  :sun:

No words can explain just being. It's crazy though.

Its the ultimate truth of the shrooming experience in my opinion  My last shroom trip I spent a lot of time marvelling over how incredible consciousness is and how it seems to flow without beginning or end. And the sheer diversity of it in different individuals... it is mind-blowing

Mikey got with Sharon,
Sharon got Sharee,
she was sharing Sharon's outlook on the topic of disease,
Mikey had a facial scar,
and Bobby was a racist,
they were all in love with dieing,
they were doing it in Texas,
Tommy played piano like a kid out in the rain,
he lost his leg in Dallas he was dancing with the train...
they were all in love with dieing,
they were drinking from a fountain,
that was pouring like an avalanche coming down the mountain.

I dont mind the sun sometimes the image as it shows,
i can taste you on my lips and smell you in my clothes.
Cinnamon and sugary and softly spoken lies,
You never know just how you look through other peoples eyes

some will die in hot persuit in fiery auto crashes,
some will die in hot persuits while sifting through my ashes,
some will fall in love with life and drink it from a fountain
that is pouring like an avalanche coming down the mountain.

I dont mind the sun sometimes the image as it shows,
i can taste you on my lips and smell you in my clothes.
Cinnamon and sugary and softly spoken lies,
You never know just how you look through other peoples eyes

Another mikey took a knife while argueing in traffic,
flipper died of natural death, he caught a nasty virus.
Then there was an ever present football player-rapist,
they were all in love with dying they were doing it in Texas.
Pauly caught a bullet but it only hit his leg,
Well it should've been a better shot and got him in the head.
there were all in love with dying
theyre all drinkin from a fountain
that was pouring like an avalanche comin down the mountain.

I am always surprised by the fact that someone has a different take on things than I do.  See, of course I am always right on my interpretation of things.  Everyone else is usually wrong, brain or no brain.

Wouldn't there be less fighting, whether between people or between countries, if we could understand that we each have different perspectives?

That crazy, I think the same thing too at times, and what it would be like to be that person. And there's billions of experiences like that.

I've often marvelled at this, especially while coming down off of salvia. When your ego is destroyed and then comes back, you realize that for that short amount of time, "you" ceased to exist, and that's a strange feeling.

Sleep is the same, although often overlooked. There's a period of time after waking, yet before this consensual perception, where the ego and mind have yet to awake enough to take hold over your consciousness. Most people, myself included, usually forget about this moment

Ah, yes. I do distinctly remember one time while waking up where my ego had not yet awoken. It was my one and only egoless experience that was not drug-induced.

I don't think there are "us". All I know is there is me, and there is not me.

It makes me paranoid to think that groups of individuals who are using their powers to gain measures of control, like the government keeping us down, like freemasons, like cliques in school. It makes me paranoid because I take things to their extremes. I don't know anything other than my own thoughts and feelings. I am afraid that everything that isn't myself is being controlled by one malevolent will (for the sake of ease I'ma call it God) testing me with metaphorical experiences in this ethereal dreamscape called reality.

I get depressed to think (calvinist style) that each new life is just a new reality constructed by god to test me in an unknown way, with only the experiences I've had in this construct to guide my decisions and feelings.

I'm a zoo creature. I'm a lab rat. I am trapped forever in the control of something I will never understand.

And so I hit my pipe because it's all worthless.

forgetting you're inside a prison doesn't mean you're a free man... :smirk:

not that that was a great analogy, but it kinda works.

I mean being controlled by the desire for control. As in...

"It makes me paranoid to think..."

"I get depressed to think..."

When you isolate and analyze your own desire for external control, and then trace that back - you may realize that it is not necessary. By releasing the ego's grip, the true self will never be so free.

Wicked poem, did you write it? (If 'you' exist)

Very interesting thread, I often think about how 'I' am just a product of DNA, ancestory, popular culture and life experiences. Do you believe in souls? I'm not too sure one way or another

emotions, man... fuck em.

but seriously...
i naturally tend to be very strongly emotional all the time.  it used to really fuck with me and get me depressed, and it still does sometimes, but i have learned the value of logic and have managed to reduce my depression time from weeks and months to mere minutes.

observe someone in the throws of an emotional fit.
go outside walk around..
you might see two people arguing or maybe a lone girl crying to herself because she didn't get ice cream.
observe the sheer ammount and force of energy these people are using to act that way, and ask yourself:
"how often is an issue truly settled by a shouting match?"
"will rivers of tears spontaneously congeal into an ice cream cone?"

realize that dwelling in such emotional extremes is often wasteful, usually unnecessary, and more than likely will only spawn new emotional spirals in the same direction.

now when my emotions get me into a corner and i get that "there's no way out" feeling, i just take a step back and observe what i am really doing,  and it usually turns out that i'm just beating myself up over stupid shit because i'm a Cancer.  :smirk:

also don't let conspiracy theories get you down.  i get into that shit, but i also realize that if there really is a grand conspiracy, then harboring fear and dissillusionment would only benefit the conspirators.  they would want you to be so overwhelmed that you felt you needed one of their drugs (Zoloft) to be happy...
