IP Logging
    #310675 - 05/06/01 03:56 PM (23 years, 7 months ago)

Suggestion: Start using IP logging to give sock puppets a hard time. Surely it would deter puppetry to some degree.

Please don't lock this thread. It's just a suggestion. If the admins don't want to discuss it, they don't have to.

Blocking a single IP will harly deter anyone from posting if they want to.

I agree. It would definitely take more than blocking an IP.

Is sock puppeting just accepted at this point? If noone is willing to consider it, just say so. From the "Closet Cultivator" thread, I got the impression that the admins were against SPs. Everyone got their chance run their mouths, but as soon as I suggest someone do something the thread gets locked. It was pretty disappointing.

Its not that we don't want to do anything, its just we are limited on what we can do since we don't log IP's.... Its a rule we will not break since people want to remain anonymous and we feel strongly that it should be that way....

Me and 3D will investigate suspect users, I mean its not like we could ever stop all sock puppets anyways, but I don't think its as bad as you think.....

I just had to expose Max because he's always accusing others of being trolls, sock puppets etc.... And he's had one all along

The thread got locked because its usefullness was over, not because of your post

In reply to:

Sounds like you know the deal, so I'll just drop it and leave it in your trust-worthy hands.

One last thing, though.. You never responded to my question about logging in the CC thread. How do you know that no IP logging occurs? Have you thwarted the FBI's Carnivore software? If not, how can make the following promise?

In reply to:

I promise you all, no IP logging occurs, this was something else entirely...

I was under the impression that not only can the IPs be easily logged, but also all the packet content.
