I wonder if this is true?
nope. the liars are at it again.
this probably makes me a "bush humping republican", but here it goes anyway...
The Biodiversity Treaty
created in 1992, never ratified by the united states.
The Forest Protection Treaty
has anyone ever even heard of this one? i haven't. the only information i can find goes so far as to say that it was never ratified by the US.
The Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty
the US is still party to this agreement.
Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty
failed to be ratified by the US senate in 1999.
The 1972 Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention
the US is still party to this treaty.
The 1979 UN Convention on the Ellimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women
this too was never ratified by the united states.
UN International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights
signed in 1977, never ratified.
The Chemical Weapons Convention
signed in 1993, never ratified.
of the 11 on the list, only 2 were actually "revoked" by the bush administration, and third was violated... most of these agreements failed to be ratified by the united states way back when they were first introduced. they were not "revoked" by george bush, nor any other US president.
lying to make a point is the lowest form of intellectual sloth.

Where has it been determined that the US revoked the Geneva Convention? As for the 1972 ABM treaty, it was never revoked, it is just no longer applicable, since it was a treaty between the US and the USSR. The USSR hasn't existed now for over a dozen years. And the International Criminal Court ... too lazy to check this out, but did the US ever ratify that? My memory says no but I'm willing to be convinced otherwise. pinky

Good work pointing out the lies of the Bush-bashers. There's so much Bush bashing going on that I will never believe anything bad that was said about him to be true. They're crying wolf too many times. Lie lie lie all the time.

Where has it been determined that the US revoked the Geneva Convention?
i believe that it was violated by our detainment of POW's at guantanamo bay.
As for the 1972 ABM treaty, it was never revoked, it is just no longer applicable, since it was a treaty between the US and the USSR. The USSR hasn't existed now for over a dozen years.
some people (fortunately including the russians) see russia as inheriting the USSR's legal commitments. you've got a point here, but when so many of the bullets on this list are 100% bunk, letting a debatable one slip ain't a big problem for me...
And the International Criminal Court ... too lazy to check this out, but did the US ever ratify that? My memory says no but I'm willing to be convinced otherwise.
it was signed by clinton shortly before leaving office... it too was never ratified. must've missed that one... thanks for pointing it out.

America never signed the Kyoto Accord. That was one thing that was too whacked for even Clinton to go along with.

Oh HOLY SHIT, the appocalypse must be upon us, for I, little ole me, get to prove the great PINKY wrong.
BAM
OK OK, well, its kinda proving him wrong, cause the US signed the treaty, as pinky said they didn't, but it didn't say they ratified the accord......so its really just a case of semantics, but even still, I get a little pride, right?

Nope, you got me fair and square. I mis-spoke on that one. I should have said "ratified", because it never has been ratified, as the article you linked pointed out.

But U.S. ratification of the treaty and action to implement it appeared some way off.
The administration has said it won't ask the Senate to ratify the treaty until developing countries agree to participate -- and that could take several years.

Maybe we could start another forum where it would just be alex and afoaf. Afoaf could come in and post a link or image thats totally wrong (Read: Governator: Liar or Idiot), then we could all prove it wrong, and then Alex could come in with some off-topic nonsequitor remark and derail the thread. Great fun to be had all around!

"Where has it been determined that the US revoked the Geneva Convention? "
I seriously doubt that they have.
The Geneva Convention only applies amongst other countries who were party to it -- I believe there were two, one in the.. 1880s? And one just after 1900?
Something tells me most the countries we're fighting did not participate in the Geneva Convention.
Case in point, there's some military folk independantly developing a new caliber to use in close-quarters combat like we're seeing in Iraq, because the 5.56mm is.. shitty. They're planning on pairing it up with a rapidly-expanding (almost fragmentary) bullet design to drop targets fast.
That's actually almost not-really allowed by the Geneva Convention, but we're not planning on using it in countries bound by the Geneva Convention.
