Help Needed: Physical disfunction of onboard sound.
    #3101645 - 09/07/04 12:14 AM (19 years, 6 months ago)

It started off as a good night. They both at 100mg of pure MDMA powder and decided to put on some hallucinogen and sphongle to get funky. Well She plugged a 1/4th inch to 1/8th inch adapter to the onboard sound card F adapter on the front of her computer to run a cord to her guitar amplifier so they could enjoy the tunes.

Well upon awakening the next morning they find that the male half of the 14/th-1/8th'' adapter has broken off in the sound card!! They got really crazy that night and likely tore it apart. There is now the metel plug of the adapter stuck in the sound card and there doesn't appear to be a way to get it out.

My question is this, would there be ANY way at all to remove this thing from the sound card ?

You see I think they can get away with leaving it in, because there is also a sound card adapter in the back of the computer (i believe this is on board as well .. its an Emachine ..) Is there a way to disable the front panel sound card and only enable the back because she still cant get the music to play...?

Sorry for a possibly silly or trivial question, she just cant live without her tunes.

:ass:

Thanks for you help guys  :sun:

Pull the sound card and look at the back end of the plug. If it is an open style plug, you can push the broken chunk through with a paperclip. If it is a closed style plug, you can usually push the broken chunk back out through the cracks in the back end using a small pin. There is a spring inside the plug that is holding the broken part in place... once you get past the spring, it will fall out.

I'd be amazed if the jack is still properly connected to the PCB. But yeah, Seuss is spot on, as usual. If it is a Creative card the jack is of the closed variety but judicious use of 2 very small flathead screwdrivers will definitely get the piece out.

well, if it's onboard or even a breakout box just power down the computer before opening and poking around with screwdrivers and such.
