how do you get rid of them? i was hoping to go on my first mushroom hunt in the new forest in south england next week. don't want to eat worms :|

Simply cover your mushrooms completely with water, wait 2-3 hours and the worms come on the surface(dead).Only if you're sure that your mushrooms have worms in them.Worms are nutritious :tongue2: :eek: :tongue:

Crush a dried mushroom in your hand.... do you think a dried worm will fall out? No, because it's dry and not going anywhere.

It's nothing to worry about. We eat bugs and shit all the time, nothing out of the ordinary. :crazy2:

usually the worms crawl out of the shrooms as you dry them. kinda gross but it gets em out..

Intestinal worms are NO JOKE.

They are nothing remotely like mushroom-eating worms. Dried shrooms can carry their eggs because these occur in both dung and soil.

Immediately initiate a de-worming regimen
Take 100mg Mebendazole twice dayly for three consecutive days and be prepared for the chance of seeing some upsetting things in your toilet bowl or even your bed. Mebendazole can be had without prescription in many countries as its used to rid kids of tiny pinworms in one single dose. Some worms are a bit akin to rain-worms as to size and appearance so don't freak if some came out.

Two billion people carry the "real" intestinal worms and its actually *common* in the US and Europe too, as even a lettuce salad can bring it on. It is severely under-diagnosed and is a taboo subject with many physicians or textbooks.

By default I recommend said pharm regimen for everybody twice a year, just like you would de-worm your dog or cat.
If somebody shits or vomits up a worm of some size they should seek out a doctor. There is no reason for panic but if you think you might have had an intestinal worm enter your stomach it is time for action.
