T. Pachanoi's root structure/makeup?
    #3103275 - 09/07/04 02:58 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

Can anyone describe t. pachanoi's root structure as similar to mytrillocactus geometrizans? If so it might be well suited for aqua culture?

The best kind of root structure is the tree-like kind. Myrtillocactus geometrizans has such a root structure. The roots don't bunch together as much and the plant is very strong and have never rot in my aquaculture boxes.

yea thats where i quoted that from. it's a guy in malayasia who has done aeroponics with his cacti. doesn't detail too much procedure but i'm going to try a dwc bubbler setup very soon so lookout for the upcoming tek. that is one reason why i was asking what kinda roots the t. pachanoi had.

well neuro i mainly meant to try out the pedro + dwc and see what kinda growth i got. then to thrust the growth into lightspeed i could go perk with pedro cutting grafted on top for probably outrageous growth. neuro is there anyway i can promote the cacti to growth thick because i heard most specimens grown indoors just have really skinny growth and stretch. maybe placing the light very close to the tips? maybe even offset the lighting so it is a bit tilted and reaches the top and the side ??

also just got back from home depot with the following supplies:
(2) 3.5gal buckets + lids
(2) 6" plastic pots
(1) bottle of root hormone/fertilizer
(1) 4pk of 20w CF
(1) lamp socket kit
(1) roll of duct tape (to light proof the buckets)

I still need nutes, grow medium, air pump , tubing and air stone.

Neuro: have you ever heard of someone making their own ph up/down with say a gallon of water and a few drops of muratic acid or maybe a tsp of lye??

Anyone know what the ph is of these ph up/down products??

These cacti grown inside often do not get adequate light and are often in pots too small for their size, this is why the growth is often skinny and stretched.

To remedy this plenty of lighting or a south facing window and frequent turning will make some nice thick cacti.

I've heard people do that, you can control pH with buffer chemicals too.

You heard of them speaking about any nutrient formulas for the DWC setup?

Don't know what the formulas would be for it, or what to buy exactly, i never really looked into doing it. I thought maybe that site would have had something to say about it. Maybe Una may have some information.
