Haha! I have been pretty much vegan for 20 years but I totally support hunting and using as much of the animal as humanly possible. I do like my synthetics, but only wear them for mountaineering or dress up. Usually I prefer natural fibers, and in the great scheme of things, if I WAS God, we would only use natural fibers. Wool and hemp, cotton, leather and linen are amazing!

I do think it is horrible and inhuman to kill an animal only for it's fur and totally agree with Deliriyum on that one.

I'm far from a vegan, I support humane treatment of all animals including when hunting. I prefer natural fibers and my only problem with them is that hemp is still not legal to grow in this country.

no my pets are NOT vegetarian - their body supports a meat based diet. my goldfish however IS vegetarian and it has been shown that goldfish in general eat plant based foods - but if it has no choice other than the typical flakes in the pet store - it'll eat that to survive - but it's healthier and prefered if they have raw plants and vegetables.

i do however go against my dog eating dog food which contains crude proteins and is tested on other dogs for nutrition deprivation (that's a whole other deal - however just do you know - Iams is a cruel company and has been proven to be unhealthy at every inspection).

cotton is actually HORRIBLE for the earth as it will suck out all the nutrients of the land it's on and those minerals and whatnot will not be restored for many years after that cotton field has been picked. this is why - cotton is not a very reliable source of fabric.

oh and synthetic fibers are made from different things (i'm a fashion major w/ a large knowledge of textiles). yes things like polyester and nylon are petroleum based but two of the (in my personal opinion) best man made fabrics are rayon and acrylic.

Acrylic is made of cellulose from wood fibers. it's non allergic and dries quickly.

Rayon is almost pure cellulose (very similar to cotton) and it has a great hand (feeling if you will).

we also have linen which comes from flax.

and not to forget wool - which if it is done properly - is safe for the animals and benefits us. but i find wool to be too itchy.

i'm not trying to win anyone over here - that's silly - i was just getting people's opinions on the matter. plus - i'm sure i just gave out some new information to SOMEONE so that's positive right?

im not here to fight or call people names - i was just curious of what people thought about the subject matter.

btw - hemp may not be legal to grow but we have no problem importing the fabric. check out nimbus clothing - they got a great thing going. they are trying to bring people into it by using hemp/cotton blends - which make people feel a little more secure about buying a hemp product.

so just because you can't grow it here doesn't mean a damn thing - we import ALL our fabric and you'd be hardpressed to find a textile mill in the USA anymore.

We should start a thread in which pictures are mandatory. And the posts would consist of Before and After pictures.

Before would be buying a used fur coat.
After would be you and a homeless person wearing the coat.

Who's with me?

Be careful with whatever you get. I know someone who had a very expensive synthetic fur coat ruined by red paint. Fuckig ignorant animal freaks.
