Is it possible to extract green mold from incomplete cakes, or should I just write off the jar entirely?

throw it out, outside of the room that you are growing in. but if your a brave soul, you could think about tossing it into an outdoor grow

I may set up an individual grow tank. I won't be able to utilize what may grow, but I'd still like to see what happens.
This is my first attempt at mushrooms, and 50% of my jars have already failed to initiate cultures.
Another jar has no mycaelium, but instead has what looks like a large bruise. The mold is blackish gray at the center and yellowish along the edges.
The jar with the green mold has extensive mycaelium growth and has even breached the surface of the vermiculite. However, it has, as I've mentioned, three spots of green mold, none of which are yet in contact with the mycaelium network, and some reddish brown spots in another area, which is covered by mycaelium. These spots are right up against the glass, and I'm not sure if they're caused by excess moisture.
One other jar has the beginnings of mycaelium growth, but has just developed a yellowish spot on the mycaelium at one of the innoculation sites.
Despite the presence of the contaminants and a general sense of failure, I'm oddly content at the same time with this grow.

Adding to what grwsm said, try reading something in the FAQs about outdoor teks. You can use the healthy mycelium from not heavily contaminated cakes and burry them outside for another growth attempt. Just a thought ...
