quick wet bubble Q
    #3101886 - 09/07/04 03:32 AM (12 years, 2 months ago)

I see a few posts and facts about this mycogone perniciosa, but no documentation as to what it actually looks like except on a fruit body. the contamination FAQ only refers to its effect on fruit bodies and that it's a soil based infection.. whereas on the forum the author says he gets it all the time but only on cakes. anyone know what infection of a birthed, but pre-fruiting cake would look like?

You're right, I couldn't find any good pictures of it either. Personally I've never seen this contaminant [or knew it, anyway]. All descriptions seem to indicate that it is seen on fruitbodies. I wouldn't have a clue what it might look like on a pre-fruiting PF cake.

which brings me to my next question, is a few watery looking bubbles like to be just a few watery looking bubbles on top of the cake from condensation? (perlite/95-98%H). no pics yet. thanks,

wow, that really.... doesn't look anything like the name would suggest. Thanks as always, Maia. the bubbles/condensation are now gone, and it now appears the poor thing has cobweb. *frustrate* i hate to even ask at this point knowing full well what the logical course of action is, but in the FAQ it refers to controlling cobweb by lowering the humidity, for one thing.. controlling as in controlling the spread to other crops, or controlling as in diminishing the favorability of continued growth and eventual stagnation/death of the invading organism?

Controlling as in diminishing the favorability of continued growth and eventual stagnation/death of the invading organism.
The idea is to change some environmental factors to affect or halt the contaminant growth but at the same time keeping an acceptable range for the mushroom growth.
Cobweb is very sensitive to light and air exchange and will weaken if you increase both. Mycelium is much more forgiving regarding this parameters.
