spent cakes as casings?
    #3101196 - 09/07/04 12:16 AM (12 years, 1 month ago)

curious if you can use spent cakes as casings. i had a cake that flushed twice then got really bruised and refused to flush anymore. i kept it in the chamber for 12 days after dunking and it just stayed bruised. i have never made a casing and havent really read anyhting about them, but i nuked a gladware platic bowl full of moist verm for like 1.5 mins then let cool and crumbled the cake inbetween two layers of moist verm and let sit two days and fluffy bright myc is starting to appear. has anyone ever tried a casing with just verm as the casing layers? will spent cakes fruit if turned into casings?

I've used straight verm. as a casing... it works.  I like 50/50 better though.  As far as using a spent cake as a casing........a spent cake is still a spent cake after you put a casing layer on it ya know.  If you put a new dress on a old whore you still got a old whore.  You could use it to spawn to a casing possibly straw and shit but not to actually fruit itself, its all used up, its already had its nutrients sucked out of it.  I'm not saying you won't get anything but chances are.....  That bright fluffy mycelia is just new growth colonizing the casing layer. :mushroom2: :mushroom2:
