Closet setup changes with pics and questions
    #3095744 - 09/05/04 05:02 PM (19 years, 7 months ago)

OK. I currently have a setup going in my closet. This is going to change as I need more fruiting space. Currently this is my setup:

Top of my closet. You can see the shelving that I wrapped in plastic and am currently using for fruiting. You can also see the shelf above which will have more shelves on it. Then on the oppisite side of the fruiting chamber in the closet there is bare wall (with an incubator just below the picture shot) which will also have shelves. What I want to do is just cover the entire closet (the ceiling, walls, floor, door, sealed well) with plastic sheeting. Then I could just put shelving things in and viola, really big fruiting chamber.

This is the closet again but a lower shot. You can see both incubators (the one in the closet and the one out with the orange and black striped blanket over it) and some PVC that I'm gonna make some shelves with. Does anyone see any problems with this? It will have a cool mist and an ultra sonic in it. The incubators will be going into another closet.

The problems I can see are possible mildew/molds building between the wall and plastic but if the plastic is tacked and taped well this shouldnt be a problem should it? Then fresh air exchange. It should take a while for co2 to build up in a closet that size even with all the mushies that will be in it. I'm thinking maybe just opening my door and fanning it once a day would do? Thats currently what I do to put fresh air in my closet anyway for the humidifier to pump into my chamber. Holes in the walls arent an option and neither are doors (hard to open doors with PVC going through them) plus it must remain stealth (all in the closet). I would also have one or two small fans running all the time to make sure I push around all the humid fresh air.

We'll what do you guys think?

PS.

3 Closets actually. Its an apartment so no garage and must be more stealth then an entire room. Thanks for input, I shall begin tacking and taping plastic tonight then after pressure cooking more casing mix. This pressure cooking thing never seems to end....

Hey one quick warning about closet cultivation

Drywall is made of paper. And high humidity will cause it to swell after awhile even if you cover it in plastic and everything.

What happens is once the drywall fibers become damp, contaims find a home. I had green and black mold growing behind the plastic. I didn't find out until I had serious problems with my fungus getting sick ,no matter what I did. What a big mystery that was!! So make damn sure you are checking every week or so behind the plastic!!

What I ended up doing was to repaint the closet in high humidity paint with a anti-fugal agent designed for a bathroom or a lockeroom. Then every couple weeks I would spray bleach water behind the plastic I had hung up on the walls.

Anyway goodluck

Fucknuckle is right, it's easy to mould your walls up. Antifungal paint is a great idea. You can just ask walmart to mix anti-fungal into almost any paint. Not sure what it costs though.

Couldnt you run a hepa filter in your closet and send the mold spores bye bye?

Nope, the mould spores are already on the wall waiting to germinate.

At the very least toweling down the walls an giving a quick clean with some antifungal spray will help a fair bit.

I'll wipe all the walls down with bleach first and spray it down with lysol. It may not last forever but I will watch for mold growing. It will also be sealed as much as possible (tacked up then tape put over the tacks (duct tape BTW) and plastic left to overlap at all seems then taped well. Hopefully moisture wont get it. This setup will probably only be used for less then a year before I either move into a house or scale back my operation so until then I should be ok watching it. If I experience the same problem then I will keep the paint in mind (didnt know they made antifungal paint).

I also do have 2 HEPA filters running at all times, one in the bedroom of each fruiting chamber. I think 2 more will be gotten for the rest of the house though when these changes occur. I will probably use these for FAE somewhat too as I could just pop open the door and point the HEPA in for like 5 minutes a day. Didnt end up starting tacking last night as I was out of tacks and forgot them when I got H202. Was tired after PCing anyway. Well someday if I start growing mold I'll get some pics of it and post to always paint your walls first before doing that

Another thing that you can probably do to help is put some damp rid in there and actually use it for its primary purpose. A little bit of that would probably go a long way to keeping it from getting too bad.
