Hello, I made 9 jars up a week or so ago.. 5 pesa and 4 hawiian and the 5 pesa contaminated with green fungi...the hawiian that were done at the same time dont seem to have any... so what I am asking is..do syringes sometimes have bad batches...or is this probably the fault of moi. Also are there any little common newb things that I may be doing? Thanks for any replys.

sometimes syringes can be bad if you got it from a vendor, let them know what happened and im sure you will get a replacement post more details about your sterilization process, the substrate you were using, innoculation procedure, etc and we can help you out more

Try a pressure cooker. Boiling is a waste of time IMO.

No, not that long. Put a fan on it, won't take long at all.

Pressure cook for an hour. Make sure all the substrait is wetted (if the flour is dry, it will not sterilize that section leading to contam). You should have no contam at all if you follow those.
Sometimes syringes get contammed (ask for a replacement saying every jar of that syrine was contammed). Never suck air into the syringe.
The cooling time is best over night.

MAGnum, he's using brf, so probably also 1/2 pint PF jars, so 1 hour is way too long.
PF says 20 min.

Much respects to the professor but your better off closer to 30-45min. IMO always better to be safe than sorry remember core temp of your jars won't heat up to temp instantly shit takes time! Like I said better safe than sorry, especially with high endospore counts because ya never know!

How many jars have you cooked for 20 min that contamed before birth?
30min is a 50% increase and will be plenty, even if you want to be over cautious.
I know you're not dissin the prof, but give him some credit! I'm sure he's probably cooked more pf jars than all of us combined! I think it's the only method he used, I'm pretty sure he worked out a very precise time and already added a safety margin. Since he was really good about replacing syringes I doubt that he would do anything to increase the failure rate.

The professor hasn't even come anywhere close to doing as many jars as the GP but I will say his time has got to be close to a minimum effective time my suggested times will work also without any problems what so ever, and BTW I do give him alot of credit and back him up often if ya haven't noticed Also people have been growing shrooms long before the professor, I for one started 15yrs. before he officially came out with the PFTek in 1991. It's all good why argue? Again GL guys

my friend only cools for like 40 mins, 20 on the counter, 20 in the freezer, works fine. also if you do not have an air bubble in your syringe to shake it, put the tip in a flame and you can suck a little air in.
