Are drinking glasses reliable?
    #3092988 - 09/04/04 09:13 PM (19 years, 6 months ago)

I can't find appropiate jars where I'm living now, and I was just wondering if drinking glasses are reliable enough for doing a PF tek.
I'm on a budget right now and I can't invest on microboxes or jars from internet.
So, what do you think? should I go with glasses?
Thanks in advance!!

Do u like Pickles?
When u go shoping for food, buy things in jars and just reuse them when done.
I hear glasses work but i woulnt want to use them.

Is there a walmart nearby? I started buying my supplies recently and I was checking out a clearance shelf....and I found 1/2 pint jars. They were really cheap! I'm on a budget myself.

I can't seem to find things in jars without shoulders, that's the only problem really. About the wallmart thing, I'm in spain so nope... :frown:
Anyway I'll search harder while the spores come this way.

Whoops...sorry I didn't read where you were located. I'm sure the glasses will work fine.

Drinking glasses are reliable as jars.

They are also cheaper and easier to find and as there is so much choice you can generally pick the best fit size for your pressure cooker.

The tops should be made of one piece of foil covered with a larger looser piece of foil.  Fold over and then PC.  When you want to innoculate you uncover the large piece of foil, push needle through first lid and innoculate.  As this is an extremely imperfect seal there is no vacuum effect and it is quite food for air escape.  As for sterility.  As good as jars I would say.  Never had a problem when I used to grow.

EDIT:  Notice I said FOOD and not FINE, I think my stomach is trying to tell me something

Tapered glasses work just fine but try looking in supermarkets for bonne maman french conserve jam. The jars are ideal for the pf tek.

Seriously, they have half-pint jars without shoulders at every grocery store I've ever been to. Just ask, they're like 10 dollars a dozen.
