I live in Tennessee, and I found these today during a soft rain when i was out for a short hunt. They were hidden in the grass but i happened to see them, most were very small so i left them and left a cap on the ground to drop spores,, but they are brownish-white on the top of the caps, which are around 2 inches diameter, and the stems are around 2 and 1/2 inches long, the stems seem to be hollow, but i cant tell since all of the stems sorta ripped along the stem itself. Here are the pictures. I thought they looked like an p.azurescan

There must be active shrooms in Tennessee. There is a link somewhere in here that has a guide, I will try to post it so you know exactly what is in your area.

Here it is: http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/23483#T

Tennessee:
Psilocybe cubensis
Psilocybe caerulipes
Gymnopilus aeruginosus
Gymnopilus luteofolius

Cubensis and Caerulipes are very rare in Tennesee. The season for cubensis has also passed and likely caerulipes as well.

Is the cap surface slimy or sticky? If it has dried out, try wetting a fingertip and rubbing the surface to see if there is a lime layer that has dried.

They look to me like Flammulina velutipes.

Happy mushrooming!

You won't find any actives in TN

I live in TN also and have done my fair share of hunting. Depeding on where you live, you can find them or it can be difficult. I live east of the mountains, so I have a hard time finding them (Chattanooga...). If you live west, you're in a better area to find them. Sure, I find mushrooms all the time, just not actives!

If you're going to get serious about hunting, I'd suggest getting a good book or two on the subject. There is a list here on the shroomery if you just look around a bit (I'm too lazy to search for you).

Happy hunting!
