The 2004 Presidential campaign has been hijaked. The focus of the campaign has been diverted from the important issues we should be basing our vote on, to splitting hairs about what constitutes metal-worthy action. The entire three-week Swift Boat debate has been nothing more than a diversion from the issues. For the past 3 1/2 years, Bush Jr. has dismantled the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act and Wilderness Protection Act. Issues concerning environmental protection, social security, the increasing disparity between rich and poor, the lack of Head Start and No Child Left Behind funding, the declining economy and increasing unemployment rate and debates surrounding our civil liberties and the Iraq war are just some issues that have been set aside. Bush Jr. won by skewering Ann Richards and John McCain. From 1993 to 2000 Republicans tried to take down Bill Clinton. This is the pattern...they fight their way into the White House by debasing their challenger rather than sharing their accomplishments and selling their vision. There must be a pay-off and there is. Americans are influenced by false spin and even base their vote on it, and that's worth millions to politicians who will stop at nothing to hold onto their power and money
