Noisy airstone

Just trying out a nw air pump and plugged into an airstone it produces quite a loud noise from the airstone (which is under water). I wonder whether it is too powerful for the size airstone? Anybody had this problem and if so how did you solve it?

If it's a vibration sound, it's from the pump. Or your stone could be clogged. More here : http://honors.montana.edu/~weif/firsttank/quietairpump.phtml You could also try tho hang the pump with rubber bands. If it's a loud bubbling sound, you could set a regulator valve on the airline to reduce the flow.

Thanks for that info.
Its not the pump, the pump has some noise but that has been minimised.
It just sounds like there is too much air coming out of the stone. However the stone is new.
I don't have a regulation valve in line? could this be my problem (I never used one with my last pump but well.. its broke now )

Is it one of the small stones or a bubble wand? A small stone might not be able to keep up with the air presure. This will cause large bubbles which will make the stone bouce and tap the floor. Try one of the bubble wands with the suction cups on the ends. They make smaller bubbles that will up the humidity more then the big bubbles, and it is much quieter.

Buy a fish tank and fish and put in annother air stone in the tank. The fish will cover for the noise.

you can get a air line valve and turn down the amount of air going to the stone.
or you can add air lines going to other chambers which will decrease the air flow and you will have more fruiting chambers.

It appears I have some valves (I had bought a pack of wiring gear for the pump) but no splitters. For the moment I will live with the noise until I can split it. Its not that bad anyway.
Thanks for all the suggestions.
If this is not part of the faq might be a good addition.?
If a mod agrees please move it to the faq forum. Thanks.
