Shirley I have never been one to diagreee with you but me and the buds have done 3 different experiments over 6 different trips. We never noticed any diff. We were eating 2 grams at a time per session.3 sessions with dessicant dried shrooms, 3 with low dry heat.
Without going into some scientific tests. You are right I am sure there may be a small lowering of poentecy but not anything 8 different opions could tell.
And when you got say 4 lbs of wet shrooms to dry. well a space heater just makes sense.

"Yeah I know sombody is going to say " hey by drying shrooms with low heat you will lower the potency"" Bullshit It aint true. I think it would take temps over 180 degs before any damage was done. I am only exposing the shrooms to 86 deg dry heat for 12 hous or so."
just playing around, FK

Lowering of potency may be minimal, but it exists. Simple fact of chemistry.

I scavenged a heating pad like you would use for a soar back, a towel, and a cooler for mine
i do like the xmas lights idea. I was looking for more shit to use for another incubator and happen to have a couple thousand xmas lights
works out great for me since i am always home and have about 48 smoke detectors in this house (landlords are paranoid i guess)
thanks for the idea fucknuckle

Hey no problem but, finding a way to get 86 temp is just common sense. Not rocket science.

Hey man I like your idea. I have had a problem with colonization time and dont want to trouble myself with that other garbage. I have the cooler in my fire place. I am debating the # of lights I should use. I could only find a 100 strand in my closet. I have a thermometer in to test temp. Have you ever had any jars dry out? How high off the jars should the lights be?

Fucknuckle, that's a great idea with the lights in a cooler. I plan on testing it out to see how well it works. Sounds like it works very well, and I like how the heat is controllable through the amount of lights you are putting in the cooler at one time. Very nice.
On the note of safety: If I worried about every petty chance of my house burning down or me dying, I wouldn't ever use my stove, watch tv, or drive my car.. In fact I'd probably be sitting in a field (cow pasture) under a blanket afraid that the sky might be falling.
As long as someone isn't putting four whole strings of christmas lights in a cooler, there shouldn't be a problem. I mean, common sense applies. If you lack common sense, you probably shouldn't even be reading these forums or even be involved with mushrooms in anyway, and I'm sure everyone here would agree with that.

anyone ever consider a carboard box covered with a black towel, with a 100 W bulb.. ? not very fancy.. but trust me.. it works.
need hotter.. bring the bulb closer..
need cooler.. well . you figure it out !
get the box off the floor, smaller the box the easier it is to heat, so don't use a 10 gal box for 4 jars.. ( actually, use the canning jar box they come in !! works great ! )
can't get any cheaper than that!!! ( you will burn more power this way.. but cheap setup ! )

Hello everyone.
I am seeing alot of concerns about fire. Use your head.
When I used x-mas lights I never allowed the extra lights hanging outside the cooler to come in contact with anythinr that would catch fire. DUH
I put the the cooler in the bottom of my closet on a piece of metal I took from the bottom of an old screen door and layed the extra light on it.. I never let the lights set directy on the towel in the cooler. I placed a dinner plate on top of the towel and laid the lights on it.
How many lights??? Well that is why it is very important to have a temp gauge in the cooler. and until you get the temps correct check it every 15 min or so. After a couple hours you will get it perfect.
Once agian the biggest warning I can tell you is......
It is very easy to get the temps over 100 degs very fast. Pay attention. 12 -15 lights is all you will probley need.
And remember this is really just a tek to get you thru until you can construct something better.
But I used it for years. Thats just me Because I trust my own judgment.
Hey I have givin many tips on how not to fuck this up so don't anybody come back and say.....HEY I USDED YOUR IDEA AND TOALLY COOKED MY JARS. I did just that, my first time trying my new idea out. It was my fault and it will be yours too. Because I warned you.

Now here is something that spells fire to me. Cardboard catches fire very, very easy. Espicaly after being dried to a cinder
In a pinch it would work but, sounds very dangerous
