Use the search tool.

Make sure you hit all three fruiting triggers:

Drop in temp,
Introduction of light,
Introduction of constant frsh air

Plus keep the humidity up and you will be fine.

Sometimes they just won't pin untill they consume a certain percentage of the substrate and nutes get a little more scarce.

1) Wait till cake is 100% colonized before birthing (or let fully colonize and show pins invitro if you like)

2)Place in fruiting chamber.Temperature inside of fruiting chamber should be kept 10 degrees cooler than the temp the jars wer incubated at and the humidity should be between 90 and 100%

3)Wait a few days to a week.

Perlite works because of it's firm structure and wicking ability. Verm would soak up the water and be a sloppy mess.

No.The reason you place Perlite in the bottom of your fruiting chamber is because you are trying to create humidity.Fill your fruiting chamber up 1"-1.5" with spring water (or tap) and then add perlite until your fruiting chamber is filled up 2"-2.5" of perlite.

You see, perlite wicks the water up into the air inside the fruiting chamber creating humidity.Vermiculite on the other hand absorbs water so there would be very little humidity.

Get a spray bottle with a fine mist and spray the inner walls of your fruiting chamber.

Fan 3-7 times a day for fresh air exchange misting each time you fan....HINT:Spary the walls of the F.C. well then snap the lid shut but leave one end open so you can stick the nozzle of the spray bottle in and give 6 or 7 quick sprays quickly shutiing the open side of the lid.

as of now cause i was short on cash i put 9 cakes in a clear plastic rubbermaid with no lid, i spray it 4-5 times a day and keep it covered with some good old glad cling wrap  i was gonna move the cakes into a better fruiting chamber(with a lid and perlite) but the fungus has been doing great. only prob i have is it is a completely clear container sitting on another clear container so the cakes pin on the bottom

No fanning = no need to mist. I use a CO2 drainage hole near the bottom. Some people say that's not enough, but I've found that it is IME.

Also using Mad_Hatter2004's method would probably end up with contams. All that spraying is going to get on the cakes, which is not good IME. Water beads up on the mycelium and quickly leads to contams. Spraying through a crack in one side will end up directly spraying the cakes which is not (usually) good.

You can spray the sides to get things going, that's fine. The perlite should create enough humidity to keep the walls wet. If you have to spray constantly like Mad_H suggests, you might as well not be using perlite because you are just doing a misting tek. The whole point of the perlite is to avoid misting for the most part.

Read the perlite FAQ here at the Shroomery, I'm sure you can find it.

>No contams yet and I am on my second flush...hate to dissapoint you fastfred.

Not dissapointing me at all. I know from experience that beaded water on mycelium will lead to contams. That's the reason you need a mist shield when using a misting tek.

Your technique is fine, in fact there are several teks that use the misting method. Almost all the ones I've read suggest a misting shield.

My point is that you aren't using a "perlite tek" you're just using a misting tek with perlite on the bottom.

What if I use a Aqua Culture to keep the humidity up and if so how long a day should I leave it on?
And about the misting if I just get the walls wet shouldn't that be fine if so how many times a day should I do it?

I haven't used a misting shield ever since I learned it's not actually needed. I started with OSS & Oeric which I call Ancient Tek These were sprayed lightly over a period of time right from casing to harvest. Some of us do more than just read the books!
Brings back memories eh old timers!!!

Well when I mist I use a pumpup type an adjust it to a heavy fog then hold it back aways so only the finest mist hits it and they'll do fine, these cakes were done just that way.

I think hyphae just likes to argue with me. Read the FAQs and teks. Most of them clearly say not to directly spray the cakes.

You can get away with it sometimes, but often it forms beads of moisture which don't soak in and then lets contams start.

No idea, I never use a fish pump. A CO2 drainage hole has been enough for me IME.

Good luck.
