Hi everyone! I have just signed up for this board and find it fascinating. I want to learn how to grow shrooms, and I am interested in what they have to teach me. I know you guys are gonna tell me to read the grow guides first which I have already started doing. Is there any other advice you could give me to steer me in the right direction in getting started. Easiest cultivation method, easiest strain, best place to order spores. Thanks all Peace

Go get Stamet's The Mushroom Cultivator. You'll learn everything you need to know there.

I would recommend the PF Tek over the MMGG... Good Luck!

Start with a simple brf and verm substrate as per the MMGG or pftek. Best advice is, stay out of the flame wars!

yup--you're right--read, read, read. I tried my luck with a pre-made kit out there, (not DB) withoiut a good knowledge base, and definitely fucked up big-time. then, i think i read every online tek that was out there before i tried again. and, i echo my friends above about "the mushroom cultivator" as well as secondarily "growing gourmet and medicinal mushrooms" by the same author. take a look at this one, in case you haven't--i based my first attempts primarily on this tek: http://GrowMushrooms.org i would grind your own rice powder--make it nice and chunky--not too fine. think very carefully about how sterile you can be at all steps--plan ahead before you start to do any innoculations, etc... i would also go right to casings--make two separate enclosures--one for a couple cakes in case you screw up the casings, and one for the casing (in case your cakes don't fruit). spore chicks and hawk have great products. spore chicks also have some excellent directions for their kit--check it out. follow their advice on which strains are "easy". and of course, all of these things happened in a dream, and i wouldn't suggest trying any of these experiments in real life.... ;-) all the best to you...
