I plan on trying to get a light bulb to use once my mycel is spread out through the whole cake but if I dont get a light in time I was wondering if I was to put the two 10 gallon fish tanks in front of my window for 2 hours a day and rotating the tanks 180 degrees after 1 hour so light hits all of the cake will this be fine? once not getting light theyll go straight back into a wooden box in my closet in total darkness

Dude, just hitting with it a flashlight for 30 secs will be more than enough.

In this hobby, many times less is more. Which seems paradoxical since you get all these tight parameters on ratios, temp, humidity, etc. But when all is done it's best to have minimum involement with them and let them take their course. Good luck,

I've heard that direct sunlight is very bad for the myc.

Yeah, that'll do the job, and there are some on here who use that method with success. I never bothered with any extra lighting other than the natural ambient levels of light within the room; i was not confined to a closet and i had a clearish tub and i was fine. A portable flouro is also good, you can have it on a timer and that will also be fine. See the trick is that its hard to find a lighting arrangement that doesn't work, so you'll be all set however you decide to go about it; just make sure it's not overheating your tub. But you def don't need all that rotation stuff.

Hey, im a little confused here. Please straighten this out for me. I always thought that if you used a light bulb for growing it needed to be that "special" light, think its called blue and now afer reading a few posts through search and all the answers I got in this one, I can use any light source that I want as long as it is a light? is this because they get nothing from the light besides to see which way they need to grow?

Yes that is what I understand. The Myc. uses light to trigger pins. After that they just use light as a way to know which way is up.

Hook up a small CFL to a timer or 1-2 2' floro tubes
