williamsII problems
    #3088332 - 09/03/04 06:48 PM (12 years, 3 months ago)

hello all,

Last week I received 5 willamsii buttons all around 2 cm across, and I believe to be around 3-4 years old. I have put them all in on large pot arranged in a five dice pattern, and lightly watered. I'm using cactus soil, with stones on the bottom & top of the pot.

Four of the five are looking great, and seem to be rooting fine with no issues, but the fifth one the white spots have turned black & the the cactus is soft & looks like it is starting to rot. When I got these they all had hair like roots with the exception of this on which only has a 1" tap root and nothing else, and I am assuming that is what is causing the problem.

I have looked through some other forums, and decided to transplant the sick button to a smaller pot with bone dry soil, & I have it under a 150W grow bulb. What else can I do? I hate to rip it out because I know it is still premature, but if/when would you all reccomend giving up & just harvest it for what ever it's worth? I suppose if it is to premature maybe it still isn't worth harvesting. I'm not sure.

TIA

DP

is it soft on the roots or on the top?
anyways you've taken a good measure, to put it with bone dry dirt.
if it's just the roots you can cut and re-root the top... not necessarily 'to harvest'!

felixhigh,

Thanks for the fast response!!!! The button (green area) is soft, the root seemed to still be firm when I replanted it. I really don't want to pre-maturly harvest, since I realize it isn't ready, but this is the second day since the spots turned dark, and the poor button isn't looking much better.

TIA

Well it looks worse today but I'm still holding out hope. The center has turned black around 1/2 cm out. I still haven't given it any water, and it has been under the lamp for 12 hours yesterday & I plan on doing the same today. The right side is still green, but tender (mushy) to the touch.

TIA

It was under a 150W lamp, we have had four days of rain and overcast, so I was trying to suppliment the sunlight with my lamp.

It is dead, the roots are shrivled, the button is completly collapsed into itself, with a big black marred looking center.

I'm not quite sure to do with it...
