Badnarik writes: "In the 2000 campaign for president, George W. Bush said that the federal government should not interfere with the medical marijuana policies of the several states. Like so many other promises, he went back on his word and has closed down medical marijuana facilities permitted by state governments. This is an outrage. ... According to nearly every scientific study on the subject, including ones conducted by the government, medical marijuana provides unique relief to patients suffering from cancer, AIDS, glaucoma and other illnesses, and the drug does not have the same addictive properties as alcohol."

I think the war on drugs sucks. I doubt anyone here is going to defend that. It is one of the few things we all seem to agree upon. I wonder why.

Why is it people posting on a website who's primary focus is drug users seems to have some of the most politically aware members? Most other forums representative of our ( by our I assume mostly early twenties, late teens ) age group have pure fools posting and have absolutely no clue when it comes to national or international politics, ie. the things that actually effect our lives?

psychedelics make most of us think...look how politcally aware the movement in the 60s was...it almost made knowing about politics "cool"

I believe in regulation of some drugs.

I definately do not believe something as strong as fentanyl should be released to the public.

I'll bet you $500 that if Kerry wins he will not make any significant change to the drug policy other than possibly allowing (or allowing the states to allow) medical use.

I will be voting for Bush for the war on terror, not the war on drugs.

Legalizing drugs would be a great idea. They could make so much money by taxing it and not locking people up. Our drug policy is flawed. People overlook the tremendous costs that it puts on our society, as well as other societies when we bomb the coke fields. We take billions of dollars of potential tax revenue, and funnel it straight into organized crime. Madness. Don't ask me to explain it.

so...how's bin laden doing these days? enjoying his freedom while the spotlight is off him, I suppose.

Funny how the man who actually attacked America was hardly, if at all, mentioned during the Republican convention but yet Iraq was mentioned over and over again - I guess this goes with the Orwellian strategy of linking the PNAC-inspired invasion of Iraq with the tragedy of Sept 11th 2001.

Terrorism is hyped... terrorists got lucky on 9-11, and this hyped 'war on terror' is frankly a victory for OBL because he's finally got America's attention, which is what he wanted. Muslim radicals have being trying to get a piece of the U.S. for decades, it's nothing new.. get back to celebrity scandals pls.

If your vote is for drug policy the answer is simple. Kerry. The reason is this, Ashcroft is a son of a bitch. If Ashcroft is flushed, we'll have a million times more chance of getting drug policies changed. That simple.

just wait till all these Iraqi kids grow up. They'll get their revenge, and crazy and as it sounds it's gonna be justified. Thanks George. I just hope these future grownups can distinguish between Bush sympathisers and those who aren't.

Noone even addressed my comment from horse-face about drugs and how he'll target them "aggressively"

People don't like to have their bubbles burst.

To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

I already posted damn near this exact thing and apparently you couldn't be bothered to read any post other than the one necessary to click "QUICK REPLY" and get your uninformed .02cents in.'
Excerpted from http://www.johnkerry.com/issues/communities/
Quote:

Keep Drugs Out Of Our Communities
[bJohn Kerry and John Edwards will aggressively target drug traffickers and dealers and provide funding for coordinated regional efforts aimed at cracking down on drug trafficking. They will also adequately fund drug prevention and treatment, including innovative approaches to requiring treatment for offenders like drug courts.

If you were voting only for drug policy, maybe you could vote for someone who has a policy of, say...
http://www.badnarik.org/Issues/MedicalMarijuana.php
Quote:

A Libertarian president would order federal officials to cease and desist in harassing medical marijuana patients and would block federal spending on the War on Drugs. Nonviolent drug offenders would be released from federal prison, and each state would choose its own drug policy, just as each chose its own alcohol policy when alcohol Prohibition was repealed.

So, after reading those two articles, do you think that the best vote for someone who's only issue was drug policy, would be for Kerry (aggressivly persue dealers...) or Badnarik (...released from prison...).

Personally, I think if there was ever to be any real drug policy reform in the U.S., it would have to come from a Republican. This is because if a Democrat tried to implement such reform, he would be accused of being soft on crime, but if it came from a Republican, such a charge would be less likely to be made. Often, reforms have to come from the party you'd least expect. For example, it took Nixon to be able to open up trade with China, while it took Clinton to implement welfare reform.
