Question One: I'm using perlite, and my humidity hasnt greatly increased. what am I doin wrong? I wet it when it doesnt feel too wet or is it supposed to be like sloppy wet?

Question Two: Majority of the cakes has started fruiting, but only from the bottoms of the cakes where they were in contact with vermiculite/perlite, there are some remaining cakes that havent yet started, is there any way I can encourage them to start? Theyve all been under the same conditions all along.

Answer one: Perlite has optimum moisture when you soak it in water, and then drain off the standing water. At this point, it is fully hydrated. You do not want standing water in the terrarium. Often it is difficult for perlite to maintain high humidity if the terrarium is opened many times a day for fanning.

Answer two: If you used multispore, you are seeing the effects of genetic variation in your cakes. I would advise double-end casing them, and placing them in optimum fruiting conditions, and then waiting. As long as the cake looks healthy, let it be. If its genetics allow it to fruit, it eventually will. If the cakes look/feel dry, you can also try a 12-24 hour cold-water dunk.

Hope this helps.

I myself have always used water/h2o2 or iodine at half the depth of perlite, this water is wicked up and distributed through the massive surface area of the perlite. It's always worked great with no contams. GL and Welcome to The Shroomery guys!

Yes, hyphae is right. It is important to have some standing water win with the perlite, otherwise it will dry out real quick.
