when's it done
    #3087292 - 09/03/04 02:06 PM (13 years, 23 days ago)

First time grow question here...
In the south eastern US when is an outdoor grow done? This plant continues to bud. How do I know when its harvest time?

You'll want to check out the trichomes (crystals) with a magnifying loupe, a 32x one is best. You'll see the trichome projections very easily with it, you'll want to check for trichome color. There will be three stages of trichome maturation, clear, milky, and amber. Most growers suggest you pick harvest your buds when about 60-75% of your trichomes are milky in color. However some commercial strains will have their own instructions about trichome color as trial and error has formulated the best harvest time for the best high.

If you just planted some unknown stuff, then harvest when 70% of all the trichomes appear milky.

Thanks for the advice. I am a complete beginner with this. Matter of fact, I inherited the plants from my ex....
The crystals from this strain are white crystals. I do have a loop so I'll go check it out tonight.

After examination, lots of the trichomes on one plant are turning amber - looks like harvest time!
Thanks neuro and eightball!

Yeah that plant looks ready to me. I'm in the SE and had two ready on August 25. Nice harvest you'll get off that one. I've had a shitty season, fucking bears looted my patch for the bone meal and ripped up roots.

Sorry to hear of your loss.
When neuro mentioned the trichomes I didn't exactly understand so I went to overgrow.com and got some really GREAT info about what I was looking at, when to harvest, and how to cure.  Thought I'd mention them in case anyone else needs an information resource.
I'm developing yet a new hobby....
:tongue2:
