Alright guys. was a bit tired of seeing only US peeps on the forum so decided to sign up and post as its approaching the season. Anyone in the UK found any Liberty caps yet?I'm in Lincoln, East Midlands, and they've JUST started to come up. Would be nice to hear from some fellow Brits. First liberty cap find of the year in the pic below cheers - alex [image]http://TheNoizeProphet.overgrow.com/view/nipple.jpg [/image] [image]http://TheNoizeProphet.overgrow.com/view/nipple2-copy.jpg [/image]

Hi . There is a topic somewhere, can't remember who started it, but they found liberties quite a while ago. Mid July, or something crazy like that... I keep looking, and find loads and loads of cool looking fungi (including some GREAT edibles ), but no liberties around here that I can find. I don't have a known spot, so I'm not really sure where to look, but I'm sure I'll find some soon enough! I think next year I'm going to start some azures, so I don't have to try to find wild patches. Although I bet picking them wild is kinda fun...

I found a couple on Tuesday here in Northern Ireland but havent been out since, will likely take a dander tommorow as it's wet here right now. I was quite lucky to find a great field close to my home last year, most of the fields in the area have quite bad ground and are over farmed because we're up in the hills.
How do you think the season will go this year after the summer? I see the farmers can't harvest the crops because the grounds too wet, is this good shroom conditions? I thought it was too warm to be finding them this early last year I hadnt spotted any untill about the 10th of September.

Hi guys, I live in Fife, Scotland and I am going hunting tomorrow. As a rule I don't normally go before the 14th as I have wasted many hours in the past going out too early, but there has been so much rain recently I am confident of getting a result. Hopefully I will have some good news to post soon. Havent had a blast for a few years and looking forward to getting back in the saddle :-)

Theres a few fields near me that i havent checked before, varied length of grass, used by sheep, no fertilizers etc. are they very likely to pop up there? anyone know of any other active mushrooms that are in season in the UK at the moment?

Psilocybe cyanescens, (wavy caps) can be found in mulch at this time of year, they're quite potenet but not as common on liberties I don't think.

It was me openminded that found Liberties in july! http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat-Number-2931385.html Found a few since but it has been way too wet, the fields are all waterlogged. I think it will be a very good year if the weather settles down a bit.

I found a good few in mid/late july after some rainy weather then many many more from August onwards. I was curious to know if anyone else has noted the potency this autumn? These were by far the most potent I've had here in scotland in the last 3 or 4 years..... we made vegicaps with them :P The stems of these stained the most deep shade of blue I have seen

sorry to be a nazi, i just don't want to see any of the UK posse getting banned. this rule is strictly enforced, as it could get the site closed down. please edit your post, dude (and the 2 guys below your post too)
ahem. anyway, i reckon the conditions are ripe for a fabmungulous shroom harvest - tis early still, but i'll be checking my fields in a few weeks. remember, grassy areas where grazing animals have been are top spots

Hi,
The last time I went picking was about 15 years ago, so I'm fairly rusty. I've recently moved to the New Forest so thought it was an ideal opportunity to start again. I've been on a few walks and seen hundreds of these liberty cap looking shrooms in the damper parts of a heath, only thing is they're not as pointed as I remember them, and they've also got an orangey tinge to them. I picked some today and have attached a photo of them (hopefully). They're not dry yet, but so far I'm not seeing a bluish tinge to them. I'd be grateful for any help with identification. (sorry about any formatting errors, my first post!)
Cheers
Nick

Hey poppadom, I'm in Bradford. I'll let you know when I find some. Not sure they will be around yet though. I'm waiting for some fungi to spring in the back garden, then I'm off on a hunt. I hear them... calling me.

Happy Hunting UK shroomers, this year I am missing the season back home, but I hope to have some luck here in Japan. Last year the crops came late due to the super hot and dry summer, but from what I've heard this season could produce bumper crops. In the UK that is. I must admit I miss wandering the fields hunting for caps....[sigh] such a nice way to spend a few hours.

Thanks for the updated pictures, outofmytree.
Looks like you're going to have a cracking stash this year.
Years ago, my friends and I had a bit of luck and filled 4 carrier bags from a patch we found on a golf course in Arkley (north of London, if anyone lives there, on the practice field). We had more than we could sanely do so we made wine with them (using a tin of that white grape juice kit). We boiled some up and left the mush in a gauze bag in the juice for a week or so while it was fermenting. It turned out lovely, a glass would give you a nice trip. We drank the last bottle a year or so later and it still did the trick

Well I found some today. Fly Agarics. A pound of the fuckers! 16 in all. There were a few more around but they were half rotted or with big chunks missing. I'll post some piccies in a while, but a few look like twothumbtony's and a few are flat.
Anyone recommend a dosage and preparation method? I'm no begginer with liberty caps, but I understand that these are a whole different league. I just want a mild feeling to start with.

Peel the outer skin layer off the cap, dry it, and smoke with some weed. I know smoking fungus isn't very pleasent but I hear the amanita skins have quite the high when smoked.

Heres some pics just to make sure, but I'm quite sure they are Amanita Muscaria.
There's only 4 that I would actually want to eat. The rest a riddled with holes and a few little larvae crawling about.
4 good ones.
pile of bad ones
No thanks
yuk
more like it.
I washed the good ones and the warts washed off. Probably will smoke the skins from the bad ones.

Man, I just been checking them. Seems most are well infected. Yuk. I just spent the past half hour peeling the skins off the ones I thought were okay. Even they had little maggots in. Now I'm feeling all creepy and itchy. I dunno if I'm tingling from absorbing some of the chemicals thru my fingers or just the thought of the maggots.
Usually with the liberty caps the maggots will crawl out if I leave them to dry. Dont think I want to wait to see how many maggots come out of these. Wonder what its like to be a maggot constantly tripping its tit's off?

A dry maggot is a dead maggot. You have to dry Fly Agarics ASAP - ideally on top of a radiator or infront of a small fan heater. Thats what I do, and I normally dont have a problem with maggots. They are unlikey to do you any harm anyway.
