Murpheys Law
    #3082730 - 09/02/04 12:51 PM (19 years, 6 months ago)

Damn Law! LOL

I just bought a power washer and have been cleaning the frame of my pool screen. I live in Florida. It dawned on me that if I blow it off this week, hurricane Frances will miss me. If I get it shiney clean today, the huricane will tear it down and twist it up in knots rendering it garbage 3 days from now. I will have done all the work for nothing.

I thought, why I am thinking like this? It seems supersticious and I am not. Ahhhhhhhhhhh my old friend murpheys law came into the picture.

What is up with murpheys law? Why does it seem to be? Who first noticed it and named it? If there is something to it, how and why does it work?

I am off to finish the job. It's ridiculous I feel the way I do.

Anyone have any insight into this? I think Murpheys Law falls under philosophy. If I am wrong, the mods can move it.

you would think murphy's law is easily disproved. If it held true, a farmer could save his crops from a horrible drought simply by washing his car...people could avoid storms by cleaning there pool...people could avoid std's by not wearing condoms...

That one was funny! It's the humor I started this post in!

Applying the law to avoiding this storm, I should'nt be bothering with exterior cosmetics beleiving I will get hit because they will get trashed anyway. And, in accordance with the law, if I don't bother and avoid getting hit, then I will have wished I did the work when labor day guests arrive on Monday.

I decided to challenge it and am planning for a party and not a storm. I hope to disprove it! Results on Monday!

It would seem the cognition of this "law" being applied to events in itself is what can change the course of a reality. I was curious on that connection.

Thanks for the humor!

Piss on this law! LOL.

Murphys law was just one persons perspective. If more people stopped looking to murphy for answers, and just had thier own view, you would discover a whole new world of flavours and tastes.

I agree that it seems like Murphy's Law exists, but it doesn't.

It seems like it rains whenever I wash my car, but if I actually documented all the times I washed my car and how many of those times it rained, I would see that it didn't rain that many times. I think negative events stand out in our minds and we remember them better than positive events.

But I blame that damned Murphy anyways. At least I am provided with a responsible party when I am short on suspects.
