I found a mushroom in the woods yesterday that caught my eye and I was hoping someone could tell me what it is. Sorry that I dont have a picture I know that can make it somewhat difficult. But anyways

Habitat: NE Georgia, growing on forest floor, dead leaves all around it
Characteristics: yellow spongey-like pores under cap, bruises blueish/brown within 20 seconds.
Measure: Cap: 1 1/2 in. tall x 3in. wide
Stem: 4in. tall x 3/4 in. wide
Characteristics: Cap: tanish brown w/hint of orange, smoothe to the touch, somewhat sticky, 1/4in. thick, circular, cap looks like a ww2 helmit.
Stem:off white near cap, browner near the bottom
Spore color: a definate brown on white paper
Buises: brownish/blue
Smell: alot like fresh grocery store mushrooms

I hope this is enough to identify. I dont plan on eating this it is purely for science. So even if you can kinda put the name in a ballpark that will help me find out what exactly it is.

Your mushroom resembles Boletus longicurvipes. There are several species that are similar, and greater detail would be needed to determine exactly which one it is.

Happy mushrooming!

I was thinking it was somekind of Bolete. I compared some it to some pictures and found almost a perfect much with boletes. I couldnt find a bolete with pores instead of gills though.

Boletes are pretty much *defined* as having tubes instead of gills. The other main group of mushrooms with tubes are the polypores. They can usually be separated from each other by the fact that almost all boletes have tubes that are easy to peel from under the cap and they are nearly impossible to peel from polypores.

Happy mushrooming!
