Even Jefferson violated the Constitution
    #3086430 - 09/03/04 09:45 AM (13 years, 1 month ago)

One little tidbit of history that makes me question how good a job a Constitution can really do in securing people's rights and limiting the size of government is the fact that Thomas Jefferson, probably the greatest thinker and advocate of liberty this country has ever had, violated the Constitution during his presidency with the Louisiana Purchase. The Constitution does not give the president the authority to purchase new land. Such a decision should have been made by Congress. So if we couldn't trust Jefferson to follow the Constitution, then who can we trust?

"Generosity is nothing else than a craze to possess. All which I abandon, all which I give, I enjoy in a higher manner through the fact that I give it away. To give is to enjoy possessively the object which one gives."

But it was such a sweet deal! He just couldn't pass it up.,

I keep it real because I think it is important that a highly esteemed individual such as myself keep it real lest they experience the dreaded spontaneous non-existance of no longer keeping it real. - Hagbard Celine
