surgery
    #3085137 - 09/03/04 12:41 AM (12 years, 3 months ago)

so in 8 hours my mother is going to have her heart stopped and then started again... they are going to use the paddles that they use for heart attacks and what not, they are going to zap her to stop the heart. Then they are going to zap'er again. And if all goes as planned her heart will start again and all will be good...

:frown: This really fucking blows... tomorrow my mother could die and there is nothing I can do but wait to see if she does... She wrote out her will, she gave me her rings, she signed papers saying that if anything bad happens to her that I get custody of my 11 y.o. sister... I don't drive I don't have a job, and we just signed a lease for a new apartment that I will not be able to afford is something happens to her...

I'm really scared, and I hate it. Not even the Grateful Dead has been able to help me today... I smoked a bowl and that didn't even help. that just made shit worse I think...

I have to act strong around everyone especially my moms cause they are all very afraid and I'm known for my calm level head.... it sucks because I can't show any feelings...

whatever enough about this...

:iloveyou: pubbers.... :lurker:I know I don't post much but this place is such a release for me...

You guys rock ... a round on me

:heart::peace::bong:

Well i hope the best for you man, i can only imagine the extreme intensity of emotions you must be going through right now.

Rest easy in knowing that things will be as they are, and that there is only so much you can do, but to have faith and hope within yourself and to cherish the moments and to love one another.

peace and good tidings to you and yours.

taken from:http://www.heartcenteronline.com/Atrial_Fibrillation.html

Summary

When the heart is not beating at a steady rate (usually between 60 and 100 times a minute), the abnormal heartbeats are called arrhythmias. The most common type of sustained arrhythmia is atrial fibrillation (AF), affecting about two million Americans every year. Atrial fibrillation got its name because the atria (the heart?s upper chambers) send rapidly firing electrical signals that cause them to quiver, rather than contract normally. The result is an abnormally fast and/or irregular heartbeat.
---

She has both an abnormally fast heart beat and the irregular heartbeat...

she had never heard of it till her doctor was listening to her heart and told her she had some problems... it all went down hill after that...

Don't worry at all.  My mom had that done many times.  But in her case, her heart was so bad that she eventually had to have a heart transplant.  And now she's been living with the heart of a 27 year old man for over two years.  Have no fear!  What she will go through is a pretty standard procedure and the chances of something going wrong is VERY slim.

I too wish you and your mom all the luck and happiness in the world.  If KC's mom did it lots of times, that give me hope that your mother will be fine.

But really it doesn't suck because I think she would be dead now if she hadn't received the new heart. She could hardly walk up a flight of stairs before. Now she can walk the dog and everything. I thank modern science for keeping my mom alive. And I know your mom will be just fine.

I'll say this once more just to make you feel better and because it needs to be said: What your mom is about to go through is a pretty standard procedure to treat arithmia. To be honest I think she created a little too much drama by giving you her rings and signing off custofy of your sister to you. That's a bit too much. She'll be fine I promise. Trust me I know A LOT about this sort of thing.

Sooo... She just got out... it didn't work. and she was telling me that now that she has gone through it she feels silly for having worked it up to such a big deal...

She has to do it again in a month after taking a new med... but she is okay with doing it again.

that is that...

Glad that all went well! (well, sort of...). God made the human body very resilient! My Grandma had her heart stop twice (not even while she was in a hospital!), and both times they were able to jump-start her again. If doctors are the ones stopping it in a hospital setting, then they can certainly get it starting again. The human heart is a wonderful thing  I'm praying for all the best for your mom and your family  :sun:
