I filled the top 1/2 in with dry verm. I mean to the top. If I turn them upside down there is no room for the substrate to slide down towards the lid. I dont mean to question anyones wisdom at this point but if the cake does have room to slide down how can inverting it increase gas exchange? It may be a dumb question. I'm just searching for knowledge.

Give the bottom a good wack and it will move a little and make it easier for the last bit to colonize if its the bottom that isn't done yet. It speeded things up for me. I use an elec blanket to keep temp where I want
