hello im an idiot with an idiotic question
    #3079447 - 09/01/04 09:23 PM (12 years, 3 months ago)

hey new to this forum and feel a bit ridiculous making this my first post, but what the hell, my younger brother has been pestering me with this seemingly simple question for weeks. ive just moved to a new location and am a bit hesitant to go and pick mushrooms(psilocybes) in the wild/cow fields in the area, so i have been researching growing my own. after studying the various ways to grow outdoors/ indoors; ive yet to find any information on this question- maybe im a blind ass, haha please dont hesitate to tell me so i dont take offense easily. anyways here it is- cow shit sits in a field, it rains on it, mushrooms possibly grow. without any tampering from man these mushrooms grow. so why not just buy manure place it on the ground water it and hopefully get some shrooms?i guess just basically creating an envronment suitable for mushroom growth of any kind. i realize your chances of getting anything are greatly reduced compared to a regulated grow with purchasing spores and all that, but it would definetly be much cheaper/easier (yes i am a master of the obvious).thanks for any feedback, this forum has already given me a wealth of info and i was very impressed by the extremely knowledgable people on this forum who are more than helpful to everyone.

you can place cows shit all over the place - but if there's no spores in the area, then you're outta luck

Psychedelic mushrooms popping up from store bought manure? This poo would be processed and would certainly not contain viable psilocybe spores of any kind(anything's possible, but that would be like trying to win the lottery---1/1,000,000,000)-that might need some more zero's...
If you've got the space and the time and a few extra bucks try to grow. It's not that difficult, really. And it's fun. And you'll learn a lot in the process.

thanks for the replies now i can finally tell my asswipe brother- yes we must spend more than 2 dollars to grow mushrooms, and yes it will be more enlightening than just watering shit all day.

expect paying a good $50-150 to get started. The PC is the most expensive tool.

Yeah unless you get lucky and find your first one at a Flea market. I got a huge 21 quart all alum bastered from the 1940's. Very Cool and only 20 bucks!!! I have seen several nice PC's at Flea Markets.
But this year santa got me a very nice 36 quart plug in the wall model with Timer and temp control, the whole nine yards !!! My wife loves me. :tongue2:

You can also get a small cheap one at walmart 20-25$ or so. Not everyone needs a massive pc. There is really no excuse to not have one.
