Really? I don't have the book. What does he say about them.

It seems like you would hardly need a CO2 drain hole if you are fanning 5-8 times a day.

Somebody needs to use a CO2 meter or something like that and figure some of this suff out. There was never this much discussion of fanning and air excahnages back in the day.

Way back when, I read that air exchange wasn't that important and just normal opening of the container every once in awhile is plenty. I've always stuck by that and it's always worked for me. I've always used a drain hole also though...

I wonder if anyone's ever tried pure oxygen... That would avoid fanning for weeks at a time I would imagine.

I can't see how the drain tek would make it any worse, again this is something that requires zero hand maintenance so I think it is a good idea. The logistics of having to fan so much are one of the main stumbling points in the non automatic system. Growing mushrooms is fun but visiting them 5-8 times a day can put a dampener on that.

As I say, it would depend on the chamber as to whether fanning is required so much. I have seen what happens with zero fanning and growth can be very poor in a small container.

Pure oxygen is an interesting experiment idea. I would not be suprised if somebody has tried it.

Yeah I agree with an automatic system, it's automatic.
5 air changes a day are in relation to small closed spaces.

Hum.... Pure Oxygen??? You know.... I have a welding outfitt in the barn. Some torches and shit. Mabey I'll drag a tank in the house and set up a experiment. I have guages that will drop the pressure down to one half of 1 psi. I don't really know what the volume or Cubic feet per min. of gas would be But, I can get the info and find out.

I think even at 1/2 psi , with a 1/4 inch hose I think it would be alot of gas.I'll think of away to try this out.

Anybody got any input on adding pure oxygen to the fruiting chamber??

Hey I almost forgot to address the original post.

I bought a hot mist humd. I got my fruiting chamber to hot but, later that winter when the house was always cold. It worked great at keeping the temps constant and correct.

Just remember that it makes heated steam. Not mist.

Yeah, warm mists are really only functional as humidification devices for fungus in cold winter months, when you not only want to help keep temps up and stable but the cold air has a hard time holding humidity.

Drainage holes work, bar none. It's the Co2 buildup that you are trying to combat by fanning and introducing fresh air through pumps, hoses, ect. Fanning DISPLACES the built up Co2 with "fresh air," same is true with pumped in air. I bet you will notice better harvests with increased yeild by adding these draingage holes at substrate level. For the amount of work and material it takes, why not give it a try?

oh I never once desputed it would not work.
I have a Co2 dump in my fruiting room. Only it's not exactly a 1 inch hole stuffed with poly fill. But basicly the same principal.
