Hello! (questions inside)
    #3077374 - 09/01/04 10:37 AM (12 years, 3 months ago)

Hello to everybody,

This is my first post here on the shroomery message boards, and I must say this is the most amazing website I have ever seen.

I'de like to start off with a few questions. This will be the second time I'm attempting mushroom cultivation using the PF-tek. I used Perlite for my substrate last time and had no success. Does Perlite hold water as well as vermiculite? Which one would you reccomend for a first timer?

Also I order a B+ syringe from sporeworks.com, mainly becuase they are the only ones that ship to Canada that I know about at the moment. What has the cultivation success rate been with syringes from sporeworks?

Any comment or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

SporeWorks is a top quality vendor.

You need verm for the PF tek, not perlite. If you use perlite, don't get mad at Sporeworks if you fail.

Otherwise, if you can't find verm, you can get a pressure cooker and do grains.

Welcome to the Shroomery.

Why did you think a perlite substrate would work?

Hey and welcome to the shroomery,  i'd say the perlite had  something to do with your last endeavor.  Yeah you need to definately use verm. instead.  I've never ordered from sporeworks but they've been around for a while so obviously if they were selling bunk shit to everyone they wouldn't be a vendor any longer.  Take all the right steps and precautions and you'll be fine.  :goodluck:

Thanks all, I was pretty sure it was the perlite. It wasnt holding water very nicely, and didnt swell like the verm does.

Vermiculite retains/absorbs water while Perlite wicks it up into the air.Use verm.

Did it say "perlite" on the bag? That's usually a pretty good clue that it is, in fact, perlite.

Welcome to the shroomery When trying new things in life it is better to do what has been done before you, then you can experiment.
