cosmic humor
    #3074779 - 08/31/04 06:20 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

humor?

most forms of humor involve belittling someone else, expending someones sense of worth, pain and suffering as the punchline.

my first thought was that humor... was not neccasary (sp) for enlighjtenment or god-realization or to attian a higher conscousness. it seemed is was to hurtful...

however, my past experiences with "epiphinies" or attainment of a broader awareness has always been met with laughter.

( <edit>...i see that humor is just an observation... wether or not its observational humor, it is still observational. and you can get different punchlines, depending on your point of reference...)

i called it the "cosmic joke". its seemed that everything was just so absurd, in light of a new awareness... so i laughed!

i once said to all my friends, life isnt worth living, its just so ridiculous, its all a joke! the whole time a had a huge smile on my face.

my question to members here is... what is your take on the cosmic joke? have you seen the punchline?

i believe when you get "the punchline" of the cosmic joke that is the first step towards becoming a god-realized personality.

you think, its so absurd, the whole thing is ridiculous, then when you encounter a person... you might have a greater urge for compassion towards them, because there just pushing through the air, being a "boy/girl/christian/spiritualist/rebel/worker" whatever theyve decided, or have had decided for them, to be.

woo, i touched a bunch of different things... but my mind is chaotic by nature. se la vi

peace, regardless

I don't think it's necessary, nor is it hindering. Different perspectives when introduced to shreds of truth will respond in unique manners. For me, I find a feeling of awe, an ever-expanding awe that escapes the use of words.

But yes, after coming to new areas of awareness, both other people and your past self (pre-awareness) seem silly and redundant, especially when entheogens are used as a lens. It's almost not humor though, but rather "how can they, and me, be so blind to the obvious truth?". Of course, this is, like anything else, always in flux.

: )

yes... awe is also a pleasant result of mind expansion.

i am more prone to looking back and laughing at the absurdity of my past life. but once in the moment, truth is awef-ful.

as far as "its almost not humor" i still regard it as such... i think its the only true humor!

a good joke leads you down a path of sorts, basically predictable, but then drops you off miles from where youd thought youd go. kind of like an enlightening journey, shamanic journey or psychedelic trip (really they are all one in the same to me).

peace

Well when you put it that way, yeah I suppose it is true humor.

Humor itself is fascinating though. Ask anyone why they find something funny and they'll usually answer "Because dude... it's funny!" or "It just is". By analyzing your own traits of humor, it becomes clear that our perception of humor is an instilled sense from others (adopted along with the other basics - language, behaviour, ect.) This brings about the question of what originated our specie's bizarre characteristic of humor, and what is it's significance (if any)? The concept of humor itself is rather funny...

brilliant questions...

ill ask myself them soon so you can hear my answers

quick response:

without humor, we would be animals.  ive never heard an animal laugh because it thought something was funny.

i think humor goes hand in hand with soul/freewill... its that awareness just beyond insinct(awarness of self).

interesting...

Ahhh the old cold cosmic joke. That everything is the same?
That all things are like one letter of the alphabet repeating itself. It seems so funny to have so many things that are separated but all the same thing at the same time. Its like a world filled with only copies of yourself. They all are too busy doing exactly what appeals to them to notice the total absurdity of it all. That there is anything happening at all is amazing. Boy, now I don't know whether to laugh or cry at the cosmic joke, probably a mix of both would be best to pay tribute to the funniest thing in existence, Us!

As evidenced by the concentration camps post.

"my question to members here is... what is your take on the cosmic joke? have you seen the punchline?"

ive seen the joke. SOmetimes it makes me laugh, once it made me cry.

Read Don juan when hes talking about the folly of life and controlled folly.

In the absolute sense, all is folly their is no purpose.

In the relative sense, everything has a purpose. It is its own reason.

That is why he likes to see instead of 'seeing' , so that he can 'catch the funny edge of the world'

I love Don Jauns writings! He's awesome!

I got the joke when i realised all of the bad things out there I was fearing including the evil ET's who are not evil were really ME in costume(from a oneness perspective where all is in alignment and not duality oppositions). Fuckin funny!

Now fear has been replaced with self empowered laughter.

I hear ya, only mine is more like ridiculous laughter where I can't take ANYthing at the moment seriously. Even banana's become hysterical.

I got it again most recently when the concentration camp post went up and was working my way through and even commented that i couldn't get off the giddy gas to write a serious reply.

I read it seeing the cosmic joke, that the enemy is really just a holographic aspect of them in costume waiting to be recognised as the self etc. Then the scary enemy costumes come off and the unity party begins. It's funny stuff to see how afraid of ones self in another they can become.

The thread is the cosmic joke on display.

laughter and humor are physiological responses to survival threatening situations (survival in a very broad sense of the word)
