iraqi freedom fighters 'liberate' 12 captives...
    #3072970 - 08/31/04 07:35 AM (19 years, 7 months ago)

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- An Islamic Web site has posted gruesome still images and videos of what it says is the killing of 12 Nepalese hostages by a militant group in Iraq.

Footage posted on Tuesday showed one beheading and 11 others apparently shot from an assault rifle at the back of the head.

The video shows a masked man in desert camouflage apparently slitting the throat of a blindfolded man lying on the ground, The Associated Press reported.

The blindfolded man moans and a shrill wheeze is heard, then the masked man displays the head to the camera before resting it on the decapitated body...

""We have carried out the sentence of God against 12 Nepalese who came from their country to fight the Muslims and to serve the Jews and the Christians ... believing in Buddha as their God," said a statement on the site by Jaish Ansar al-Sunna."

nice people.  :smirk:

if anyone is wondering what the freedom fighters mean here by "came from their country to fight the Muslims and to serve the Jews and the Christians", the best i can gather right now is this: "the workers? immediate supervisor was another Jordan-based firm, called Besharat and Partners, which enlists workers for employment, mainly in the construction sector in Iraq." (italics mine).

Hah! Construction of Zionist empires, no doubt! These people from Nepal, a Zionist and Western controlled outpost, were spies sent in to destroy the hard working Allah-soldiers who are defending the peace and soverignity of Iraq! I can't think of a better way to blame the USA and the Jews for this, as clearly everything is their fault.

It's tragic but when you go to work for an occupying army you are taking a risk. Just like the IRA attacked people who worked for the Brits or the resistance attacked people who worked for the Nazi's.

I thought that the occupying army was the Coalition of the Willing, led by the United States and England, not a Jordanian construction company. Maybe I'll have to re-read some of the issues pre-war, I could have SWORN that America was over there, and that it wasn't "Besharat & Partners" who were doing the occupation.

No germ, the point is they are working in conjunction with the occupying army.

Come on, mush. Everyone other than neo-con repoop twits knows that Jordan works hand in hand with the US. Jordan is a de facto American puppet and has been for a very long time. Do some research, why don't you?

So they didn't have any clearance from the occupying army to work on construction projects? I believe the Nepalese government has banned it's citizens from working in Iraq too.

Since control was turned over to the Iraqi government two months ago.

As a side note, does accepting a government contract to rebuild something equate to being controlled by a government?

They require none. The Iraqi government is in charge of that now. Has been for two months.

I believe the Nepalese government has banned it's citizens from working in Iraq too.

Source?

Oh, well that makes their murder all right then.

i don't know what they were doing there. from the information available, most likely they were there working with a construction firm.

now, if they were building military installations, you would have a point.

however, if they were building or repairing civilian housing, commercial space, or infrastructure belonging to the iraqi people, why are they legitimate targets? how does that equate with "working in conjunction with the occupying army."?

are humanitarian workers "working in conjunction with the occupying army?" how about iraqi doctors? what if these construction workers were iraqi citizens helping to build or iraqi buildings or infrastructure?

is any person in iraq who does anything but fight the infidels, "working in conjunction with the occupying army"?

is "with us or against us" a valid policy... as long as you happen to be a terrorist?

Because that's the way guerilla armies work mush. The IRA didn't say "You can work with the Brits as long as you're not doing this kind of work". They made it clear that anyone remotely involved with the Brits in any form was fair game for getting shot. The idea is to warn everyone from co-operating in any way whatsoever with the occupiers.

is "with us or against us" a valid policy

Valid to whom? If you're trying to overthrow and disrupt an occupying army that is massively superior in firepower then it's clearly an option open to you.

While poor Iraqis are struggling to put bread on their table, foreigners from every reach of the globe are coming to Iraq to make the big bucks.

Surely anyone who goes to work in Iraq knows the risks?

Makes you wonder why the construction firms can't simply hire Iraqi workers.

I would imagine there are some Iraqis working in construction in Iraq. Might even be some Iraqis working as cooks and cleaners for construction firms operating in Iraq. Of course, the Saddam loyalists and Jihadis have been known to blow up Iraqis as well -- particularly Iraqis standing in line for job interviews.

If I understand your drift, it seems that not only were Iraqis supposed to depose the Ba'athists without assistance, but they are also to rebuild their country without assistance. Clearly the UN and virtually every NGO who fled Iraq post-March 2004 seems to agree with you on that point.

It's nothing to do with "my drift". I'm not an Iraqi insurgent (tho I presume that will be down in your next list of my transgressions before too long..

I'm explaining to you why guerilla armies facing superior firepower would consider kidnapping people working on US approved construction projects.

it seems that not only were Iraqis supposed to depose the Ba'athists without assistance, but they are also to rebuild their country without assistance.

What has this to do with what we are discussing?

BTW, surely even you can see the irony in the country that has just bombed the living fuck out of your country offering "assistance" to rebuild it. If Osama Bin Laden had offered Al-qaeda operatives to help clear Ground Zero would you have welcomed them with open arms?
