such a thing as too much light?
    #3069893 - 08/30/04 05:53 PM (12 years, 3 months ago)

says a friend: everything's gone well except for fruiting. he paid careful attention and read tons of teks. he even got some mushrooms once or twice, but not really all that much. he built a nice automated cooler that automatically exchanged the air a few times a day (with an air pump) and kept the humidity at 99% (according to a digital hygrometer). his temps were always about 75% when he checked it. but one thing bothers him: he stuck a little nightlight in there for light, but to keep it simple he didn't put it on a timer. so the cakes and casings get 24 hour light. is this unnatural for them?

the only other thing he could think of was at nighttime, the temps dip a little low. he just checked his high/low records on the hygrometer and his temp sank to 45 F one night. since it's in his basement, low temps (in the 50s and 60s) might happen occasionally. perhaps this is not helpful? my friend needs help badly. his mushroom friends are dieing.

Yes shrooms need a light cycle
Large temp fluxs can cause trouble

I've noticed on halves of casings in the shadows do better then halves of casings not being shadowed by the shelves. I've cut back light and I think size of fruits has improved greatly. 12-14 hours for pinning (more direct from the light source) then once pinset is complete I like about 6-8 hours of minimal light (moved so not direct on casings). Shrooms still grow straight too..

Turn your closet into a fruiting chamber

yeah dude you need to make sure it doesnt get too hot or cold, it will fuck things up. my friend had lots of pins but it got around 85 degrees in the fruiting chamber one day and alot of the shrooms aborted. if at all possible move the chamber to your bedroom or somewhere that isnt too hot, but not too cold. 73-78 degrees farenheit is what i hear works best.
