Such thing as a "humistat" ?
    #3069825 - 08/30/04 05:31 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

I am using an ultrasonic humidifier to humidify my fruiting chamber but am having trouble keeping humidity at the right levels. I was wondering is there such a thing that I could simply plug my ultrasonic into that I could set to maintain a certain humidity? If you are having trouble underdstanding my question let me spell it out for you.....I get this "device" and set to 82 (RH of 82) if the humidity inside my chamber is less that 82 it will kick on the device I have plugged into it (my ultrasonic) until the RH of 82 is achieved, after the humidity reaches this level it simply shuts off, and so on.

Check our this link for prewired humidistats and motor speed controllers. http://www.littlegreenhouse.com/accessory/controls2.shtml
Half way down the page is a prewired humidistat. It's a good one. Mine is over 2 years old and never let me down. Bear in mind, it's for casings or straw logs, etc., only. Max setting is 85%, so it wouldn't be suitable for use with cakes.

Yea, that would be awesome if it went up to 99-100%

such a device would be extremely expensive. heck, even analog dial humidity gauges that operate above 85% are terribly expensive.

use a sling psychrometer if you must measure high humidities.

the truth of the matter is that no such instrumentation is necessary in the face of experience. i can accurately judge rH of a room or bin by feel and sight... assuming said rH is >80%.

of course, i can't turn off a humidifier while i'm at work.

I've actually got one on my humidifier that I got for ?10 (~$16) from Ebay...it just goes from "high" to "low", though, and I haven't got a hygrometer so its not much use.

So how do you guys keep your RH at a constant level? I know achieving 100% constantly is not hard, but for fruiting, around 82% what to you do? Leave your humidifier on constanly and have a vent? or put it on a timer? I'd imagine any method would basically require using an RH meter (which I don't have and can't afford for this grow btw) and dicking around with your humidifier until the results were satisfactory.

That looks just like one I saw in a lab. The lab version must go up to 95% though. I bet it's pretty damn expensive.

Why would you need 95% you should only need 75-90%. With mycosupply you need to select the pulldown to the selected item to see the price, its $98.95.

>Why would you need 95%

I just remember punching 95% into it once and that was how high it went. It did look *exactly* like the one pictured, except that it had a fisher scientific label.

Just make it 99%. Seems to not be a problem in fruiting at all.
