I had just read a list of Handy quotes before starting this thread, by the way. Most important life concepts are dead simple. For instance: Treat others the way you want to be treated, or maintain your personal integrity, or do not commit murder. Come on, these are some of the foundations of our lives. Most people who lose their way in life do so by ignoring these types of simple rules. Once again the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. To express your personal philosophy in terms a phd in philosophy would not be able to decipher is mere self importance.

I think this discussion is in need of contextualization. In terms of thoughts pertaining to the conventional world, it seems to me that the deeper they are, the more comlex they become. This is because the conventional world, that which our society is (unfortunately) built upon, is filled with boundaries--regulations, or conventions. A prime example would be the law, where court cases can certainly become very deep and, accordingly, complex, since the issues in question must be discussed within a rigid framework of thinking.

Driving is another example of this. To navigate through the conventional world (literally and metaphorically), you must abide by the conventions therin. You must stop at the stop signs and the red lights, take caution of speed bumbs, be altert of passing pedestrians, etc. This makes passing from point A to point B, both metaphorically and literally speaking, a difficult and complex task.

Then you can think deeply with regards to thoughts relating to the fundemental world (god, consciousness, essence, whatever you want to call it). Here, a matter of convention can be broken down deeper and deeper, until an essential understanding of it is reached. This essential understanding is necessarily simple since, in the fundemental world, everything is boundless and universal. Often, in my opinion, the conventional world could greatly benefit from being reduced in such a way.

So it seems that thoughts can be inspected deeply in two opposing directions, and depending on the direction, can becoming either increasingly complex or increasingly simple. Therefore, I partly agree with the original hypothesis of the thread.

It is possible to get so "deep" that one is spouting nonsense.

Yup. Yet, despite the often nonsensical nature of the conventional world, one cannot ignore its existance.

What I wanted to say is:
If you substitute 'deep' with 'true' and flat with 'weakly true' to 'false', then you need many words and concepts to postulate a 'flat' argument. Opposite for 'more true' statements.
If there are used (too) many words, I tend do get (more) skeptic.

(No, this quagmire is a very shallow one...try it  )
