spawn run question
    #3066427 - 08/29/04 09:27 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

Hey, I have a question for yall.  I want to know if this would work.  Say somebody has 3 pints of colonized grain, and they want to spawn it to some compost.  Would it be possible to do a spawn run in large (freezer size) ziplock bag with holes poked in it for air exchange?  Then birth them like cakes onto some foil with perlite underneath?  Would this be a bad idea?  Thanks for your input.

compost as in straw compost or manure compost? normal compost wont work. But to answer your question yes you can make logs or blocks in ziplocks but making casings should yield a bit more.

It's 70% compost (I'm guessing forest compost, it says it contains peat and other forest prducts, it had a few rocks and sticks and such in it, which were removed) and 30% manure, this mixture is cut about 50/50 with verm because it's very dense by itself.

If I did them this way I would just do the spawn run in the bags, then dunk and roll them in verm and birth 'em like cakes. I'd probably throw some coir/verm on top for good measure, too.  Guess we'll see how it goes.
