more large shrooms...?
    #3066425 - 08/29/04 09:26 PM (12 years, 5 months ago)

man, with all this rain we've been having in ohio i've been finding mushrooms everywhere, heres two different kinds i found while driving home.  An ID on either type would be great

A.  Columbus, ohio, growing in grass in someones yard, near pines trees but not under.
B.  Gills are long, brown and soft.
C.  Cap is about 5 inches long and stem is  about 4 inches long.
D.  Stem has a tough feel, thick, lighter brown and a ring around the top.
E.  Cap is wavy and has cracks through it with a smooth feel.
F.  Working on spore print,
G.  Hard to tell, i think a dark brown/blackish.
H.  Smells kind of bad, yet sweet.

stem

cap

then i also found these.

A.  Columbus, Ohio, under a pine tree growing off the pine needles.
B.  Gills are a light tan color, almost white, do not hang down.
C.  Stem is about 3 inches long and cap is about 3 1/2 inches.
D.  Stem is the same color, i tannish white, hollow with a very smooth feel to it, also has a ring near the top.
E.  Cap is not wavy, is white with small tan spots and also have a very smooth feel.
F.  Working on spore print.
G.  Seems to bruise a light brown.
H.  very faint sweet smell, almost no scent.

any help in IDing these would be very helpful, thanks a lot.

That second shroom looks like the same one that was in a previous thread recently. We were thinking something closely related to lepiota. but the cap isn't scaly

Both resemble species of Agaricus... ?

I think angryshroom has it right. Those both look like Agaricus. To start to identify them further we need to know their bruising reactions and odors. To bruise them, cut them in half vertically and scrape the inside with your knife edge hard enough to bruise the tissue. The color changes from bruising can take up to an hour.

Happy mushrooming!
