WBS using pint jars
    #3066119 - 08/29/04 05:56 PM (19 years, 6 months ago)

Is there enough room in a full pint jar to grow WBS spawn in?

shes being sarcastic, dude yes there is, but we use qaurts cause it holds the most you can expect to get to colonise fast enough before it contams. the smaller the jar the faster it colonizes, but yur also wasting time and spores, so go out and spend 9 dollars on 12 qaurt jars, and some po :thumbup:llyfill and grow sumfin!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the replies.....

I would go with the quarts, but my current el'cheapo mirror PC wont hold'em.

I was thinking about getting a bigger PC, but in my neck of the woods that would be about an $80.00 investment. It would be much cheaper for me to spend $30.00 on 40 lbs of bird seed, and buttload jars.

Off to wally world I go. :stoned:

While I have this thread on the top page, let me ask....

Should I leave enough room in the top of the pint jars to shak'em, or should I just fill them up with seed, after the simmer?
?

I have a mirro PC, it holds 3 pint jars quite nicely.

I have a 6qt Presto which only can do 4 pints at a time. Believe me man, it's not worth it to go out and buy tons of WBS and tons of jars. Get the bigger PC. I just did 20 jars yesterday with rye, and figure, 45mins for the simmer, 10mins for the PC heatup, 1hour cook, 10 mins cooldown...x5 (cause 4jars a time x 5 times to make 20). So it takes me all together around 7 hours to do 20 jars...PINT jars. Doesn't seem worth it does it?

Straight sided full pint jars make up nearly half the jars I use. The work very well. Never had any problems. Half pint all the way to quart jars , same thing.
