Can you ID this? (pics inclueded)
    #3064382 - 08/29/04 03:27 AM (19 years, 7 months ago)

First few pics...

a. Habitat (where [state/province/country] and what does it grow on)

Country: Finland. I found this shroom from a grassy area where they keep horses. I think it was growing directly on a horse dung.

b. Characteristics of the gills (color, attached/not, gills/pores, etc)

Light brown / beige

c. Measurements of cap and stem.

Cap: 1,5 centimeter wide. 6-7 millimeter high.
Stem: 4,5 cm long. diameter 1 mm.

d. Characteristics of the stem (color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc)

Color: Ochre/ivory/fawn (i.e. light yellow/brown/beige). After handling darker brown.
Texture: Soft/loose after handling... and quite viscid.

e. Characteristics of the cap (color, texture, conical/spherical, convex/concave, etc)

Color: Ochre/ivory/fawn (i.e. light yellow/brown/beige).
Texture: Slimey/sticky. No lines.
Shape: Kinda like upper side of a flattened ball. Tiny nipple.

f. Spore print color (very important!)

I really can?t tell by just looking the paper because the print is no good even thought I kept the shroom on a paper over 12 hours. But when I look the photo it looks between black and purple... as you can see above.

g. Color that the mushroom bruises

After handling the stem goes darker brown from light yellow-brown.

h. Scent of mushroom

Same as Psilocybe Semilanceata (No! I do not think that this is Liberty... far from it.. )

So... what shroom this could be? Usually when I?m looking for Libs I see meny other little mushrooms but most of the time they don?t look anything interesting.... but this little fella cought my I for some reason.

This is Stropharia semiglobata, not active.

I find these all the time when i'm looking for libs, i think it is Stropharia semiglobata, but although i have been picking libs for 20 years, i've only just started to try and ID other shrooms so i could easily be wrong. I know which ones you mean, very very slimy, i don't like the feel of them at all.

Hey papayafuz, most excellent job on the description. This post is a textbook example of the CORRECT way to ask for an ID.

Heck, maybe Gumby should toss this link in the FAQ.

I second that id as correct as Stymee says it is.

Thank you guys for ID... I looked some Semiglobata pics... and they look the same as this shroom. Feel free to add this topic in the FAQ if you want.
