I'm going to try my hand at whole grain for my next grow, however, I can't decide on which to go with - so maybe a poll will help me decide. For all experienced grain growers - please help me decide....
Votes accepted from (08/28/04 12:00 AM) to (08/31/04 05:08 PM) You must vote before you can view the results of this poll.

WBS is real cheap, easy to get and works best for spawning because it breaks up more.

Rye, quart jars finish in 6 to 9 days. Holds more moisture then other grains. Produces many flushes, if your not gonna do bulk grains are the way to go.

True. About 50% more than millet or WBS.
BUT: millet or WBS tend to colonize faster, and the water they lack at the start can be brought in through the casing layer. I use both rye and millet/WBS and I couldn't tell which one is definitely better.

>millet or WBS tend to colonize faster, and the water they lack at the start can be brought in through the casing layer. Ok, but if you add moisture to the grain the same way as to the wbs with the casing layer wouldn't that make for larger flushes out of the rye? (I'm not sure I've never tested this myself and I'm prety sure this is a easy question for you )

>BUT: millet or WBS tend to colonize faster I disagree millet has always taken noticably longer to colonize at least in the 300+ bags I've done. Ya know it has something to do with it's density I believe. I agree on WBS crappy moisture holding capabilities and it's subsequently lower yields but the price is right for doing mass volumes IMO. There can only be so much water there for optimum conditions.
