Verm vs Verm/Coco Coir
    #3061907 - 08/28/04 02:48 PM (12 years, 3 months ago)

Hey... awesome site! I'm curious if there is a noticable difference in yield if you use a pure verm casing layer as compared to a 1 part Verm/2 part Coco Coir casing layer? If it's only a gram or two I really wouldn't care... but if it comes down to a whole new flush I'd like to give it a go then. Thanks

IME, I have found that the best way to answer questions like these is to try both ways yourself and make your own conclusion. I don't mean that in a asshole way at all, but I've found you won't get a solid answer and it could very well depend on individual circumstances. Coir/verm is slightly more prone to contams I feel, but if you are not worried about contams then I think the added coir is better. It colonizes significantly faster and fuller then straight verm, which i've found doesn't always colonize like I want it to. But I would try it both ways anyways. Let me know. Its always worth trying something new I think, unless your still perfecting your teks in which case I would stick to the basics.

Verm/coir@30/70 works great and is very stable. IME It most definitely gives better results than straight verm hands down. The addition of verm to coir also keeps the casings moisture content closer to optimum levels and more uniform. 50/50+ peat/verm/buffer also has an awesome microclimate!
