Some Reishii pics
    #3061122 - 08/28/04 06:33 AM (12 years, 3 months ago)

Hi all,

Here are some pics of Reishii (Ganoderma Lucidum) found in Holland last week. Hope you like 'em

Note how the grass is encapsulated in the mushroom body. Specimen was growing from the base of a live oak tree by the side of the road. I've also found Reishii about a mile from this spot growing from a dead oak tree stump. The species is pretty common here around this time of the year.

Koraks.

One question ... I see there are a lot more shrooms with psychoactive properties than psilocybes and panaeolus species, so is there a link with pictures showing other active shrooms ?
Posibly that grow in forrests and meadows ...

Nice picture, but those are not Ganoderma lucidum.

It could be Ganoderma pfeifferi , but I am not sure.

Kind of a random question;
Are the blades of grass furthur in the fruitbody [the ones that have been 'fungussed' the longest] still alive?
Nice pics!

Reishi has caught my attention lately. It is a marvelous mushroom. Does anyone know of an identification guide to the several differing species closely related, and any useful info??? that is, beyond the usual ordinary stuff already posted!!

i like reishi

Ok, thanks for the input. I more or less assumed they were lucidum. Checking my guide (Gerrit J. Keizer's dutch guide), I'm pretty sure these are not Ganoderma Pfeifferi, as the species I found is definitely an annual mushroom; the fruit bodies do not remain.
The best match is still Ganoderma Lucidum, but I can imagine that the species has a different appearance depending on the habitat. Also, there might be different strains, but I'm not sure about that.

It could of course be an entirely different species which I'm not aware of. If anyone finds a better match than Ganoderma Lucidum or Pfeifferi, please let me know!

I'll return to the spot I found this specimen tomorrow to check this species with my guides.

Yes, they are still alive and do not appear to be bothered by the mushroom encapsulating them! I noticed this phenomenon on another spot as well; here a different species af grass didn't seem to be bothered by the invading mushroom either. Here are some pics I shot about a week ago:

The colours are a bit off due to the fact that, for some reason, these slides were underexposed about two stops. I lost some colour in the correction process.

Great pics, Koraks!

Thanks dude, this is really the first season I can combine my mushroom hobby with my photography hobby on a reasonable level

Nope, these specimens stay right where they are. I think they're a pretty sight for those who have an eye for detail. I also think that they offer much more pleasure to much more people if they are left in place as opposed to me collecting them, in which case only one person benefits from them. Moreover, both G. Lucidum and G. Pfeifferi are listed as 'rare' in this coutry in my guide (although to me they appear to be rather common in this area), so I think they should be left in place.
