Grain to grain transfer bags not fully colonizing

This is a strage problem, and I can't figure out for the life of me why it's happening. Someone created WBS bags and transfered colonized grain from another bag as a g2g transfer.
The G2 bags colonized a little for the first few days, then quit. What could possibly cause this? lack of air exchange mabey?

The master grain and G2 grain were incubated in two different incubators,with the same basic set-up - maintaining a temperature range of 83-86 F. The incubator which the G2 grain was placed had the plastic tote cover on it, with a blanket draped over it. The incubator which successfully incubated the master spawn did NOT have the plastic cover on it, only a few thick blankets draped over the opening. I don't if this would make any kind of difference.

There are no signs of contamination of any sort, it's been ~12 days since the G2G transfer took place. The master grain was inoculated via spore syringe. In both instances the bird seed was prepared in the same way. The only difference was that they were incubated in different incubators, with the g2 grain incubator being a few liter's less volume than the master spawn incubator, and the tote cover.

So, knowing all this, what could possibly make the G2 grain stall like this?

i think you might have answered ur own question with the lack of air. have u ever used quart jars?with 3/8 inch hole drilled in top with synthetic filter discs. if not try it. usually two spoon fulls and a good shake will colonize a jar in 8 days.

Most invisible contaminants will emit a very distinct odor from the filter patch on the bag. They will smell very "sour" sometimes strongly like ammonia if it is something like wet spot bacteria.

Stalling in bags that are otherwise sealed and spawned properly is almost always due to water ratios being off. How was the grain prepared to get the water content correct? Have you tried shaking and mixing the colonized grains with the uncolonized grains inside the bag? Make sure your filter patches are not restricted or being blocked by something in the incubator.

There is no sour smell, and I am familiar with the smells of invisible bacteria, such as wet rot. There are no unusual smells of any kind. The filter patches were not blocked or in any way restricted from breathing.

The master grain and G2 grain were prepared in the same way -
soak for ~12 hours, skimmed floaties off, rinsed, drained for 30 min, pc'ed for 90 min and innoculated.

Initially, the colonized grain was mixed evenly throughout the uncolonized kernels, then left for a few days, during which time growth appeared to be normal. then after ~3 days it just stopped. Yesterday it was mixed again, with no signs of recovery.
