Pins on the side of casings

AFOAF asks...

What should someone do if pins are forming on the side of the casing? Should one remove all the pins with a knife, and fill with casing mix? Is it alright that the casing gets a little destroyed when removing the pins on the side?

Not sure what to do... I was a dumbass and used tinfoil to cover the sides of my casing... bad idea.

I let them grow out then when cake is ready for harvest flip out the casing and pick them off. Dunk, then refill sides with casing and put some more on top to patch. Make sure you get all aborts off, most of them seem to abort on the side/bottom. Cover with tin foil from now on if you dont want side pins.
