Is potting soil non-nutrient?

I ask this because I have made a sucessful casing where potting soil and vermiculite were mixed 50/50 and used for the casing layer. I sterilized this casing layer in my oven.
I will be making some casing in a few weeks and was planning on using potting soil that has some perlite premixed into it.
Does anyone see any problems with using potting soil and vermiculite for a casing layer, as opposed to other casing layer materials (ie coir)?

No it contains some nutes, but its also what i use for casing. I tend to preffer the peat free stuff.

Ok cool. This is peat free, as far as I know. How is your success with this casing ingredient? Any different from when you have (if you have) used other ingredients?

i find it works well, good at holding moisture, and i dont have too many contam problems with it, I have had some nasty green before, but i have with most casing materials at some time. I do the same as you plan, 50 potting compost 50 verm.

I have used straight potting soil several times right out of the bag for casings. Beware I did have a higher contm. rate. But the mushys love it.

Most potting soil is based on peat, and this is what you would classically use.
