ipomoea purpurea...err...ugh...found em, but no 'strain'

I guess my question is are there any danger from taking a 'strain' that is unknown? Id hate to end up in the emergency room. I finally found some seeds but they are unspecific as to what specific kind they are.

yes there are dangers . I dont think that an individual "strain" of a plant is going to have a huge difference in chemical make up to other strains of the identical species.. but are these plants wild or domesticated? There are several risks in wild crafting for ingestion. Give us a few more details if you could.

when experimenting with plants (to succumb to their entheogenic effects) , even if there are tons of reports of their use on the internet, never rule out the possibility of needing to goto the emergency room. Every body reacts differently to various substances and various environmental factors can alter a plants phytochemical make up, possibly increasing the concentration of toxic components even. This is why one must be very familiar with not just the psychoactive chemicals in the plant you are bioassaying but also the other "innactive" chemicals , like tannins and resins and such.

studies have indicated that I purpurea is devoid of ergoline alkaloids...
(the desired _species_ (not "strain" or "variety"; the "genus Ipomea has quite a few speices within it) is I tricolor (=I violacea)... the strains/varieties within that species include heavenly blues, pearly gates... which do tend to vary a bit from strain to strain in total alkaloids & alkaloid profile, but environmental factors can have quite an effect as well... )
check out the morning glory vault at www.erowid.org or something, y'know...
